From SRD news:
To my surprise, my US publishers have already chosen an artist to do the cover art for "Fatal Revenant": John Jude Palencar. I don't know his work, so I don't know what to expect.

I think he's best known for doing the cover art for Eragon; and if I'm not mistaken he did that now famous Lion picture that featured on the teaser posters for The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe movie.

What the hell happened to Michael Whelan?
All I gotta say is, he better not come up with some Darrell K Sweet crap.
Read the book, Mr. Palencar!

I like his style quite a bit! I doubt he'll read the entire book.... did Whelan?

From what I've been told, Whelan will not do art for a book that he hasn't read.

Hi. I'm not too happy about this choice. Mostly because I'm the type of fan who wants to see a scene from the book on the cover, and Palencar is the type of artist who doesn't do that.
Here's some samples. As you can see, they don't actually say anything about the book they illustrate, unless you count "there might be a woman in this story" as saying something. This gives you a lot of cause for worry in the "hasn't read the story" department.
Here's my prediction: the cover will show a woman, who could possibly be Linden, looking sad + tired + resolute + worried + intelligent.

Yup, that's what I want to see also.

If it were me...I'd ask the editor (resumably who hired me) for at least a chapeter of main passage to read...not necessarily the whole book?

Wow. That sucks. That's really lame.
Exactly, what the heck happened to Michael Whelan?
And thanks for those examples, Way. If that's what we can expect from this John Jude Palencar hack, then holy crap this book cover is going to suck.
All of those book covers look like crap! And they look the same!
If I were SRD, I'd be pissed. I guess he has no power with his publisher, and can't push them to go back to Whelan.
It sounds like we need to start another petition. Heh.-jay

I hope the cover is something simple, like a white ring.
I really hope it doesnt depict a scene.

Let's go hassle Palencar and tell him we want a proper cover and that he had better read the darn book !

He has talent, when he's not redoing the same lady's face over and over... I like this picture:

But... yeah. Maybe has a website we can swarm?? Tell him that there are thousands of people depending on him to do a good job? He's not a
bad artist, it would just suck if he did random blonde woman in flowy robes for TCTC.
I'd suggest pointing him to this forum, but
some of us have already been a little harsh....

We should have had a Fatal Revenant cover art competition and emailed the winners to SRD....

I was actually serious, have you SEEN the talented artwork of some of the watchers?

The thing is, this is something that SRD doesn't have control over

So, are you saying my artwork isn't talented?
(But, yes, I agree.)

The publishers would probably consider an "unknown" talent because they could get it cheap and thus save money AND it would already be proven to be fan approved. They would be silly not to consider it.
Wayfriend, I didn't mean to bag your art, I just meant something NOT photoshopped and something NOT sarcastic....hehehehehe

As long as it's nothing like this:
Then I think I'll cope with anything he does!
