Book 7 theories - by Miss Ann Elk (ahem)

I am an accidental fan of Potter. Never had anything to do with the damn things until I saw the movie for "Prizner of Az". Then curiosity got the better of me and I had to check it out. Much to my dismay, I actually liked the darn things. She's not the best writer by a long-shot, but she's good enough. Very good.

OK, enough preamble.

My theories for Book 7 (many of which have been discussed in other postings, but allow me to summerize):

- Dumbledorf is DEAD. period. He's not coming back (except maybe as a portrait).
- Snape is on the side of the 'good guys'. He's playing out the double-agent role to the hilt. That tower scene with Dumble has ALOT of clues there.
- That crotchety house elf of uncle Black's (which Harry has now inherited with the house) is supposedly going to play a very important role -- so JKR has hinted at indirectly as she TOLD the director of the new film (OotP), that he MUST put that elf in as he is important later. Hmmm, it seems there are a lot of Black secrets, or likely, the elf is playing both sides.
- I am of the opinion that Harry dies. A small part of this belief is the notion that JK would not mind keeping everything self-contained and in her control, not wishing to see poor knock-offs come out later concerning Harry. But the real reason is just because it "feels" that way. Harry and V are too closely linked for it to end any other way. It will be heroic, no doubt, but tragic. The whole notion of his wand being the same, the prophecy, Dumble's smile when he heard that V had to use a bit of Harry's blood to regain form... and just the whole set-up. it just feels right and JK has proved that she is not afraid to sacrifice for the sake of a good story. And sacrifice is one of the major components of the stories...

OK, that's all I got time for before I start doing some serious work.

cheers!~

I can't even begin to think about book 7 - aarghhhhhh

I'm gonna be one of those saddos (again) who queues for the book at midnight on its release date and reads until he falls asleep, or his boss phones to see why he hasn't come to work that day.

Ditto. Right there, all day and night and into the next morning, until I'm done.

I'm assuming someone will provide a link to an online copy on release day, same as last time.

Since it's being released on Harry's birthday again, I'll also do amazon, if we can get the money together to send Beorn to camp again, and have it delivered to Beorn at camp.

If I'm not obligated to a job somewhere, I'll most likely spend the next few days sitting at Borders or Barnes and Noble reading in one of their chairs.

Or hmmm...

I wonder if my public library is taking holds for the book yet...

I totally agree on those two points.

I think that Dumbledore basically told Snape to kill him ("Please, Severus" was not a plea for his own life, Dumbledore wouldn't do that).

IMHO Dumbledore wanted to make sure that Draco Malfoy (who had already shown some reluctance) did not cast the Killing Curse. IMHO he was looking out for the welfare of his students, even Malfoy, to the very end.

I think that that act will pay dividends in the last book and that Draco will surprise us all.

Just to toss a random thought out on the subject of your last point, could it be that Harry will die because of his (sometimes irrational) hatred of Snape? Might the book end with a regretful Snape at the Potter families gravesite, telling James and Lily that he had tried to save Harry, but that Harry's wilful pride had meant that he couldn't?

Interesting theories. I agree that Dumbledore will not return except perhaps in his portraits. I am also leaning towards Harry dying. I think she's gonna just do it much to the chagrin of millions.

No theories as of yet but wanted to give Usivius props for a Python reference.

I can't imagine that after all that has happened in the muggle world, that she could kill Harry. I would be willing to bet that to begin with that was the plan. However, Potter is so beloved world wide (I'm sure she never EVER thought he'd be so loved) that to kill him now would break the hearts of millions and probably also threaten HER (both personally and finacially).

I think Harry has gotten the reprieve. Snape (if for no other reason than he is MY favorite) will die, perhaps at harry's hands before he realizes that Snape was on his side (unwillingly) from the beginning.

Snape, i think was in love with th Lily. He ratted out James Potter to get him out of the way, but V betrayed him and killed Lily too. I think THIS is why Dumbledore trusted him so...LOVE.

I think kreacher is a Horcrux.

btw, I have ALREADY taken time off to get and read the book! Can't wait!

Kreacher as a HORCRUX? I can't imagine that, traitor YES, Horcrux NO. Sorry Guns my sweet, I just don't see that.

I had never thought of it like that, but I think you may be right. It's also a motive that Voldemort would never suspect would lead to Snape betraying him, as well as another reason for Snape's hatred and envy of Harry.

And Dumbledore was always a believer in the power (positive and negative) of love, was he not?

CammJenn...ya, I may well be WAAAAYYY off on Kreacher being a horcrux...but I'll bet he knows the exact location of at least ONE horcrux.

Do y'all think the Gryffindor sword is a horcrux? I do. He is said to have made a horcrux out of artifcats imprtant to each house, correct?

There is at least 1 horcrux in the Black house.

Well, I thought if any living creature is a horcrux it's probably Nagini as Dumbledore theorized in Half Blood Prince. I also agree that Kreacher probably knows of one horcrux and it's probably the locket they found and couldn't open while cleaning during Order of the Phoenix. I kinda doubt that Godric Gryffindor's sword is a horcrux because Voldemort never really got a chance to get at it according to Dumbledore, again in HBP. I also have doubts about anything of GG's being a horcrux. We know he stole something of Helga Hufflepuff's and I think something of Rowena Ravenclaw's from the old witch and since it's been awhile I can't quite remember exactly what but I think one was a goblet. I am also not quite sure of this but I think they theorize that V made six horcrux's right? The diary was one, the ring of Salazar Slytherin another, the locket, also SS's was the third, I figure Nagini is another so that makes four, then one of HH's object and one of RR's object which makes six. If there is a seventh then it most likely is something of GG's but I seriously think there are only six.

I agree, Dumbledore died.

But, so did Fawkes in CoS during Harry's first visit to the Headmaster's office.

Dumbledore's patronus is a phoenix.
His coffin burst into flames just before the tomb appeared.
Harry saw a phoenix joyfully flying in the sky right after the tomb appeared and assumed it was Fawkes.

I think Dumbledore will be back, in one form or another, other than his portrait.

You make a case Menolly...The fact the Dumbledore is IN the portrait though is compelling evidence of death, is it not?
