For some reason I've always been struck by the way Sheol Satansfist stands somewhat apart from its brothers. It seems that Lord Foul favoured it over them for some reason.

Does anyone else get the same impression? Would anyone care to furnish this topic with a few examples of situations where samadhi's role is different from the other Ravers?

Of course, Sheol's final fate takes a markedly different turn from the other two, too...

Not really, if you look at it from the Ravers point of view, Kinslaughterer would have got the most pleasure. Samadhi always had the most crap endings, getting lava poured on him by Berek during the summoning of the Fire Lions, getting knifed by Mhoram, getting rent by NOM. Really not a good pattern.

Ok, forget my original, facetious heading. My real point is not that samadhi gets 'better' jobs, but 'different' ones.

For example, Triock has to act in its place (with Herem and turiya) in the Illearth War while it's busy commanding Foul's army. It is the one chosen to run Revelstone as Gibbon. If you check back, you'll see that Jehannum and Herem are often seen as a pair without it. I ask others to give more concrete examples because I haven't read TCs for a number of years (though this forum has certainly reawakened my interest and I'm going to read them through the summer - the best time of year to read the 1st Chronicles).

I had always thought that Samadhi seemed to be held in higher regard by Foul - He led the greatest of Lord Fouls armies, he possessed the King in the ancient realm of the south, he started and maintained the sunbane...
Meanwhile, Turiya prevents Triock contacting the Lords, brings Covenant to Elena, follows Covenant halfway around the world to unleash the power with Venom, and he gets to have a little fun in Coercri.
Moksha, on the other hand... Makes the Woodhelvennin paranoid, possesses a Ramen or two, herds Linden and Covenant into Kiril Threndor, and leads Foul's smaller force to weaken the enemy while he prepares for Samadhi's attack (he knew the force wouldn't win - he just wanted to a) bring covenant to the Land and cause the Law of Death to be broken, and b) weaken the forces of revelstone)...

Sort of seems like they've got a little hierarchy going on... Samadhi > Turiya > Moksha

Yes, he leads the army against Revelstone, maintains the Clave, and is the Legend-King. As mentioned by Murrin Anyhoo, maybe Foul trusts him more? Doubtful, he of all the Ravers would have seized the oppurtunity to take over.

No matter what the other Ravers ever did or do, the greatest is turiya. If the standard that we judge Ravers by is how much horror, pain, and sorrow they cause, then all the evil deeds of the other two combined don't equal

im sure that satansfist is refered 2 somewhere as the right hand of the despiser. his role seems more public, the king of doriendor corishev, the na-mhoram etc. moksha and turiya generally have wot seem 2 b more sneaky roles. the spawning of the ur-viles, freaking out souring woodhelven, attcking TC on starfares gem etc. i agree with murrin and his hierarchy. smadhi always seemed 2 b the most important, then turiya. in my opinion anyway.

Yeah, I actually do agree with the hierarchy. I should have said that the one I hate the most is turiya. Could anything ever surpass the evil of that act?

yeah. as far as despicable slaughter goes, he is gross. but samadhi turned the council of lords into fouls little group of blood shedding minions. the clave butchered ppl everyday because of him, & the ppl of the land thought it was the way things had 2 b. thats pretty bad. he also destroyed revelwood.

Were the three ravers originally triplets or just brothers that chopped down a bunch of trees before the era of the Lords? That may explain some heirarchy. I know they possessed the Giant triplets because that sign of unusual fecundity was a sign that the Giant's exile in the Land was at an end. Unfortunately, it wasn't the end we all hoped for. Not to second guess SRD, but maybe he needed Nazgul/ravers to physically manifest the evil of Sauron/Foul. There was the Witch King. Any time you have two entities, one has to have dominance over the other, just ask my girlfriend. Plus, being incorporeal, SRD didn't have to worry about any logistics of where they were and when. They embody the fear of the unknown, foster distrust between others, since you never know who they're possessing.
