:::hoping this is the correct forum to post this:::

I have seen animated avatars on other forums that switch between different pictures. I really want to have one that consists of Beorn's two Bar Mitzvah portraits (posted in the locked People You Think are Beautiful thread) for a parenting forum I post on.

But, I have no idea how to make one, nor how to reduce the image sizes small enough so the animated avatar will fit the forum's size limit of 10K.

Is there anyone here who can help me?

I think that lore was lost with the 5th ward, and I'm not so sure we want to find it.

I'm sure someone will get to it before I get home from work, but if they happen to not then I'll do it for ya, Menolly. It's really easy and will take just 5 minutes.

What you want is to "create animated gifs". There is some "free" ware that you can get. With those two clues, google gets you the rest of the way.

Does the freeware work on Window 98 systems? Will it take forever to download on a dial-up AOL connection? Will the program be too large for the 125 meg of space I have left on my 4 gigabyte hard drive?

Those are fine points. I know I was giving you a teaching you to fish solution (if you take my meaning), and you're there saying, but I only need the one fish...

I'm sure you'll get someone to make you a gif.

But anyway, yeah, I bet you could do it if you really wanted to. I cannot remember the one I tried, but it was small and old, and you could probably use it. But I cannot come up with the name.

Finally, there is an on-line thing called GIFWorks at www.gifworks.com where I guess you upload images and then download an animated gif.

Nothing to buy. Takes up no space. And it's free. It's up to you if you trust that site with your pics.

I haven't heard back from Wadds since the weekend started, so I don't know where she is on it. Last I heard, she was having difficulty changing the pics to gif. But that was because she was trying to do it on her work computer. She didn't think she would have a problem on her home computer.

It takes a special kind of person to be this good.

I'm sorry Menolly! Av- go for making it if you would... at this point, I'll transfer the file to a usb stick (if I can find one) and lose it before I get it to a computer with an internet connection to get it to Menolly. I'm *so* on a roll here....

Av, the images are on my packed up computer due to our own move. I have no idea when we'll get it set up.

They are stored on my photobucket album though, and Jenn also put them into the KW album for me as well. Do you want me to link you to them on photobucket?

Ah...OK.

Here are the links to the images I want the gif to alternate between. To be used as an avatar on the forum I plan to use it, it can be no larger than 10K in size. The forum says nothing about pixel size. I do want to alternate slowly between the portaits.

I do want the standing portrait to be full body, even though the detail of the face probably won't be very visible. Since the other photo is a head shot it works for me.

I have a third photo I would love to include in the rotation, of Beorn being held up by the mohel at his bris milah, but it's never been scanned in and I've been unable to find it. Should I ever get it uploaded to a photo site, would you be able to add it to the gif?

Wadds also asked me if I wanted the gif to have any text on it. I would like to, but can't come up with anything apropriate that doesn't strike me as sappy...

I do actually have two more images I would love to have made in to a second alternating gif for a forum I post on where I'm known as Gator Pam. They're drawings of alligators cooking. But, I don't want to impose (too much)...
