hated his guts, but he was a good baddie, if such an oxymoron can exist. i do think his excessive trust of warden is not particularly realistic howeva, then again, neither is the way he treats his mum. 2 many neuroses i guess.

sum sui generis

i think its pretty realistic...Warden had proven himself time and again as Holts follower(on the surface...) Fasner had no idea how far wardens treachery had gone or how long it had been going on, but he had only started suspecting after they welded angus...and the time after that was only what, a few months, as far as i can tell...maybe less...so, he had every right(or so he thought) to keep trusting Dios...

and as far as his mother goes....she was his consultant, and if you were fasner, and found a way to prolong your life, wouldnt you want to keep the one advantage you had over everybody else....(yeah, he had a lot of advantages, but this one was unique)...she had always steered him right, even though he knew she loathed him...

See, the funny thing that I noticed about the Gap series is that by the end of the series, SRD has made every character in the book sympathetic to the reader, even though every character was also a jerk. Now, I should say every character, except one, Holt. I mean, he's the one guy who we never seem to feel sorry for. Heck, SRD even tried to make us feel sorry for Nick, Angus, heck, even Sorus and Milos. But Holt was pretty much evil throughout the whole thing. Now, I can't remember for sure, but I can sort of remember SRD trying to explain Holt's reasoning for power in Holt's view, which I think was kind of interesting, although I don't remember for sure.-jay

Feel sorry for Milos, did I miss something? Why would anyone feel sorry for that puss-faced ponce?

Spoiler
Well, he did loose his humanity at some point. That has to count for something. Even I had to feel sorry for the guy then.

I liked Holt and agreed with his long term goals, in principle. However the way he carried them out was wrong.
