Early Review of Ghost Rider

One review does not make a great film but from this description, and the trailers I've seen I'm beginning to get excited. I haven't been the biggest fan of the character but I have read and owned several comics over the years (including a fairly complete run of Champions). This might be one of the very coolest comic book adaptation films to date. Or it will suck. Time will tell. :-)

My expectations are very low. Never liked GR much to begin with, but Nick Cage...? I dunno. I'll likely give it a chance....

Yeah. Didn't Mr. Cage give Wicker Man all it's spectacularness?

My theory is, if the trailer is trying to impress you with one-liners, there may not be much else to impress you with.

Heh. Watched Wicker Man the other day on dvd. Got the "Shocking Ending not shown in theaters" version.
I remember turning to my wife and saying..."Um...he's not going to make it is he?"

Heh, he didn't help, but there was so much more badness to The Wicker Man that even if Cage had been a paragon of wonderful acting he couldn't have saved it. And The Wicker Man featured one of the unintentionally funny lines of 2006: "Step away from the bike"

If you want to watch The Wicker Man, please watch the 70s original with Edward Woodward. The new one should never, ever be viewed. It bears almost no resemblance to the original.

Aww, you guys are too negative. This movie's going to be the biggest thing since Snakes On A Plane!

Do not read this if you are looking forward to the movie and don't want anything dampening your enthusiasm.
Spoiler
GHOST RIDER crashes, burns, limps forward before ultimately boring the piss out of Harry.

Um. Yeah.

So. Yeah.

Remember how I said I was looking forward to this?

A long time ago, I took my best friend, RoRo, to go see Kevin Sorbo in KULL THE CONQUEROR. Upon exiting that “experience” – RoRo was quoted as saying, “It was like running up a hill to smell a bucket of shit.”

Yeah. That’s what it was like. [...] [link]

Saw it today. Quite enjoyed it, though it was badly flawed.

Not as good as Batman Begins, X-Men or either of the recent Spiderman films, but probably as good as X-Men 2 and maybe, just about maybe, even Superman Returns (though Superman Returns would have thrashed Ghost Rider if it hadn't been crippled by Kate Bosworth).

Though there aren't any noteworthy performances, Nicholas Cage does a decent enough job, starring alongside Eva Mendes' chest (I assume the rest of her was there somewhere, but if so, she served only as a means of conveying her chest across the set while wearing tops two sizes too small).

A bit cheesy, a bit lame, numerous plot holes - but overall a reasonably enjoyable way to dispose of two hours.
