Well the predictable end to the uniquely American tradegedy has occurred. Did her lawyer/husband do her in?

Sad.

Wow. That's too bad. Now the baby has to grow up without a mother.

I think it was probably doomed to do so whether or not ANS lived to be 80. of course now it is a certitude.

This story will dominate the airwaves for a couple of days.

From another forum:

That's sad (and I'm pretty sure I'm talking about her death *as well* as HLT's comment!).

It's sad when people die but she's been a trainwreck from day one.
Hopefully her kid (and whoever the kid's dad is) won't be in the celeb news from now on.

I concur with HLT. And Guns, you said it: a "uniquely American tragedy."

(However, Seareach, your unhappiness with HLT's comments is duly noted.)

My personal view: Anna Nicole Smith is as ludicrous in death as she was in life.

That's all the mental energy I'm spending on this story.

It's a joke that this story will dominate the media for months (but that's a thread for the Tank).

ANS was a stunningly beautiful woman back in the day, who unfortunately turned into a train wreck.

In this morning's Chicago Tribune:
But news of Smith's death Thursday lit up the Internet and sent mouses clicking far and wide. Between 3 and 4 p.m., chicagotribune.com set a record for most traffic on the Web site since its creation in 1996. The next hour set a new record.

So, so far, she's worth zip (economically).

And no one is certain who the father of that poor child is too. . . the tragedy just goes on and on. The unfortunate fact of life is that one cannot chose his/her parents/family. :(

I don't get the negativity surrounding her death. Yeah, she apparently had a drug problem. None of my business. Yeah, she didn't seem very bright. But I've never met her, much less given her an IQ test, so what do I know? But even if true, she wouldn't be the first not-very-bright celebrity. What's left? Oh, she gained weight, then lost it. Um . . . she had large breasts. Am I missing anything?

I just don't see why her life is something that people joke about and ridicule. Are any of us rich and famous? Playboy centerfolds? Had our own reality TV show? Sure, these are not grand accomplishments in the history of our species, but at this point, she did a lot more with her life than I've done. I have absolutely no right to belittle her life--or death.

Ditto.

Meanwhile, it's been reported on CNN.com that pictures of her in the bed of the Bahamian minister of immigration, who had allowed Smith to immigrate under questionable circumstances, were published in a Bahamian newspaper, after they were allegedly from her house whose ownership is disputed, one party claiming it was not actually given to her but loaned to her ...

Gee whiz. This is not world-shaking news. But there's certainly a sensation. It's not so much what Smith did, as it is what everyone else is doing now that she is dead, that's kind of stunning (and sad, and shameful).

Too bad the white house will never let us see their logs of who goes in and out ... I bet that THAT is connected to Anna Nicole ...
