FYI the Doomsday Machine is out this week for anyone has syndicated access to ST.
I watched it last night and the new CGI is freakin' great!!! The machine rocks, the movement of the Constitution Class ships is excellent.
The blasts from the machine are way cooler.
Plus the DM is one of the best episodesperiod, but probably the best for THIS new CGI process.
Look for it!

I don't get that episode until 5pm today. I've been looking forward to it since I saw the "Star Trek: Enhanced" clips that were done by a fan. I'm hoping todays episode is as cool or cooler than that. We'll see.

I've heard about this, but where do you view these new eps ... and are they going to re-do all of the classic st eps?

Yeah they are.... if you have the OS in syndication in your market (locally...not TV land) you should see them. Get on the net for more!

Thanks Guns!
That is one of my all time favorite episodes!

Just watched it. Out freaking standing. They really showed off the new effects. DM was my favorite episode for years but over time the unusually crappy effects took their toll. I've been saying City on the Edge of Forever was my favorite. That's all changed. I can now enjoy the most entertaining and exciting original series episode. I can't wait to get the full enhanced series.
Well done AG. I don't know if I would have had the dedication to stay awake till 4 am. I have my dvr set to record every episode every week so that God forbid I'm away from my set at the appointed time I won't miss nuthin.

I hope to catch it one day. The Doomsday Machine is also one of my most favorite Trek episodes. I don't know if the remastered versions are being aired locally. If so, I haven't seen any ads promoting them. These days, I'm just not enough of a Trek fan to bother tracking them down myself.

MM. I think I read that you are in Canada. I don't know if you pick up broadcasts from across the border but here is a list of U.S. television affiliates. Good luck.

The quotable Decker:
"They say there's no Devil. But I saw it Jim...right from hell...I saw it....with a maw that could swallow a dozen star ships!"
"I've been prepared for death ever since I killed my crew"
Man what a great episode!

I haven't seen
any of these redone episodes.

I'd really like to, but don't watch much tv these days. (BG, of course!

)
Anyway, my contribution to this conversation is to say
Vendetta is the very coolest Trek book of all!!! I've only read several of the hundreds of Trek books, and don't think many of them were much to write home about. But
this one is SOOO freakin' cool!!! (Aside from the
horrifyingly useless love story that runs through a lot of it.

Holy @##%!) It is revealed that the Preservers were destroyed by the Borg. But when they died, they were working on a weapon that could destroy the Borg. The DM we see in the episode is the prototype. The one in the book is the final version. And MAN it's amazing how exciting battles between hugely powerful spaceships can be in books!!!

Written by Peter David, the obe time write of the Hulk comic books, correct?
That was a good book. I think in the begining of the book, he describes that the crew has taken the famous moniker "The Picard Manuever" and attached it not to his famous battle tactic, but to his penchant for pulling down hi yunic when he stands up! When you see reruns, you'l see he does it all the time!

Sounds like an awesome story, Fist! Yeah, the Borg have become far too annoying. It's time somebody whipped their cybernetic asses! Or laminated them.
I'll see if I can find a copy of Vendetta. Er, dumb question #22: who are the Preservers?
And, oops, thanks for the list of US affiliates, LFB. Unfortunately, I don't recognize any of them. Oh, well, I'll keep an eye out, anyway.

The Preservers are the beings who built the obelisk in
The Paradise Syndrome.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Paradise_Syndrome
"They passed through the galaxy rescuing primitive cultures which were in danger of extinction and seeding them, so to speak, where they could live and grow."
They aren't mentioned elsewhere, but I think they're in other Trek books that I haven't read.

Weren't the Preservers also the ones that sent the probe to earth when the whales were found to be extinct?

I don't remember that movie well enough to know. I don't remember that being mentioned, but I can't say.

I really need to go out and get this. This has always been one of my favorite episodes.
It always gets to me when they get Decker talking.
Kirk: Matt, where's your crew?
Decker: On the third planet...
Kirk: There is no third planet!
Decker: Don't you think I know that?!? There was! But not any more!! They called me...they begged me for help...four hundred of them..and I couldnt.... couldnt

The whole episode is an absolute winner. Fast paced, with an immediate threat, and great characters. Much like CotEoF.
