Installed the Home Premium version on my pc today. It's excellent. My pc runs faster than before and the effects are great.

I saw this is GAME the other day - EXPENSIVE!
I think ill stick with XP until i can afford to upgrade.

Not so sure about this OS. I've heard cries of praise and cries of "nightmare!" from several camps. I'll probably just buy a new computer in a couple of years, anyway, and Vista will be onboard.

A friend bought a new laptop with Vista the first day it was available. It took the better part of 2 hours just for the computer to cycle through all of the startup programs and driver installations. I haven't really talked to her since to see if she liked it or not.

Ah, I'm glad someone posted a topic for this. Does anyone know how to beat the final boss of Vista? That dude is insane! Anyone know any good cheat codes???-jay

Well.....Lore did mention "effects" which could mean "graphics" which is what gamers are focused on, so it could be in the right forum!

I completed Windows 95, but when I played 98 I got stuck at the Defragment level.

Ahh that boss is easy, just time consuming. See once the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) pop up, you dont click anything, and let it sit for about an hour. Then the Defrag is over, and you win.

It just take a long time, and you need max health.

Ahhh thanks. What do I do with the USB 2.0 protocol? I used it on the *.dll cave and all I got was some silly crash to desktop mission.

Took me a while to figure that out.

You have to use the adapter you found at the Temple of Cicuit's and then use the standard printer plug in. That bypasses the insanity ciruits and makes sure that they have no idea whats going on.

Helps keep the BSOD down too.

I'd strongly recommend not switching to Vista unless you're machine is really quite new. Microsoft have taken a different approach with driver signing this time around. If you were installing something that was a bit old and the drivers weren't 'signed' as XP compatible, it would tell you it didn't think installing it was a good idea, but you could just override the thing and put it on anyway (that's what system restore is for, after all!). Vista is far more strict and it basically won't mount drivers for anything that isn't approved for it.

I have a tendency to use hardware that's a couple of years old, but was damn good in its day: this is Vista poison. I managed to get workarounds for some of the smaller problems, but the ones that were left were huge. Basically Vista wouldn't even load the standard VGA driver for my video card, and screamed blue murder if I installed the ATI ones (even the ones that were specifically updated for use with that version). Consequently I could only run Vista on its minimum settings and even then with a dialog box constantly flashing in the corner of the screen. On the subject of video cards, although ATI have generally had the edge over nVidia in recent years, their drivers have consistently been far inferior so I'd think twice before taking an ATI card near Vista.

Worse of all for me, my sister lost my XP disc and I actually had to buy a new copy before I could reformat the machine. The way I now see it, is that XP SP2 is actually pretty damn good as it stands. Vista is prettier and should prove less troublesome to keep secure, but it's a bit of a resource hog and these driver issues can be catastrophic. So, be careful if your machine isn't bang up to date. The grass might look greener from over here, but it could be hiding flesh-eating grasshoppers.

4th never use a OS before the secound Sec. patch specially things from Microsoft.

If u want a stabile OS then use UNIX (SunOS are for free) or Linux if u want an atventure too.

I tried Linux and for basic functionality it's great, but in the end I couldn't make it do the things that I wanted to do and fled back to XP's warm bosom. The deal breaker for me was that I couldn't get to grips with the basics and not only do the basics differ between builds, but the Linux community seems to be intolerant of anyone who can't figure out those basics for themselves.
