Yahoo is promoting a service called Yahoo Voice, where you can make pc to pc calls When I clicked on the link I got this message:

Lucky you, you are on a Mac. You may still purchase Yahoo! premium voice services on this site, but you will need a PC to use them. We are working hard to enable voice on the mac, so please check back soon.

So I'm free to pay for the service, but I just can't use it.

All these service providers are quick to foist their latest developments onto you, whether you want them or not, paid or free ...... in the case of the free ones, it's often because there's surreptitious server-side spyware there that tracks you around the Internet, but that's a whole new discussion!
