I've only taken two so far. They're kinda nervewracking, trying to go fast and accurately. And it's at least fun, from an eye/hand-coordination standpoint. But I think the results would be different if the pairings were reversed. Meaning, instead of Good/X-Bad/Y followed by Good/Y-Bad/X, it could have been Good/Y-Bad/X followed by Good/X-Bad/Y. It seemed to me that getting used to the process was the biggest part of it.

Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for Straight People compared to Gay People. Well, if I know nothing except gender and sexual orientation, I'll always choose to spend time with a straight woman before any of the other three possibilities. So I guess there's at least some truth to this result.

Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for Other Religions compared to Judaism. Religiously speaking, I don't know all that much about Judaism. But I definitely prefer the non-personal godheads of Hinduism and Buddhism to the personal God/Jehovah/Allah of western religions. As for the Jews I've known, I don't think I have an automatic reaction. Of all my sister's ex-boyfriends, the Jewish guy was my favorite. He likes Springsteen, Pink Floyd, told good jokes, and was just great to talk to. OTOH, one of my bosses is Jewish, and he's a pain in the ass. But that's because he's a jerk boss.

I did the Old/Young test...so far. And I have a 'slight automatic preference for young over old' - er DUH! why else do you think all the guys I've ever been with were younger than me???

Does speed make a diference? If it does, I'll pass with my dial-up connection.

Hopefully Beorn and I rank in the favorable association with Judaism...

Considering how simple the "mechanical" aspect of the test is, I'd say there's a good chance dial-up will work.

If not, there's always years of therapy. :D

Hey, dig this! Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for African American compared to European American. Not sure what this means. Heh. I know I don't prefer anybody else to myself. (Except, as I indicated above, women over men.) So was it just simple mistakes? I try to go as fast as I can, and I know I messed up twice in a row, putting the European American and/or Bad down as African American and/or Good. But I don't suspect it means anything.

I remember taking one of their earlier tests, and I know I was able to intentionally influence the outcome. Maybe they've changed it up a bit since then...

Don't know if it's a tool I'd put a huge amount of faith in, at least knowing my propensity for purposely skewing results that are meant to be unbiased. I tend to think other people do the same thing. Huh, wonder if someone could design a study that explores how many people force test results in studies like this...

I doubt it's a very accurate test. Most mistakes when I took one were not from my automatically associating terms with each other, but from my brain trying to settle into a pattern with the keystrokes (E-I-E-I oh, wait, no: E).
