Just remember kids, drugs are bad and if you ever do drugs you will die and go to hell and burn. But if you don't do drugs you can smoke clowns.

Antidrug, above the influence, this is your brain commercials...these pretty much sum up all the important parts of my childhood.

"It's ten o'clock. Do you know where YOUR children are?"

What a crock.

Hey, as a little kid that one was pretty seriously threatening to my psyche. I was all like "What, I have kids?" Really screwed me up.

My dad used to joke that with me. Before my time, but he thought it was funny.

How old are you? I'm 17 nearing 18, but meh. Maybe you had cable? For most of my life I only had public channels so I saw stuff like that and Scruff Mcgruff all the time.

I'm eighteen.

We had cable, but my parents kept me on PBS too, so Scruff Mcgurff was around a lot too.

We were also good friends with a DARE officer. He always freaked me out. Kept telling my brothrs and I about how there were rewards for turning pot smokers in, crap like that.

Now, null, thats profiling. ;)
I have known and do know many respectable and decent pot smokers. It's the powders that make people evil. At least that proves true for the midwest, in my experience. Oh, and alcohol. Too many drunks out there today in my opinion. And premarital sex, video games and poker.

I should stop there.

And milk. <nods vigorously> Everybody who has gone on to drug use has started out drinking milk. You can look it up.

Let's not forget "coffee", or as the Colombian bean lords call it, brown gold. :D

Seriously though, to call marijuana a gateway drug is based on statistical hyperbole and propoganda. Alcohol has been linked to a hundred times more deaths, and legal prescription medication now makes up more than half of all drug abuse cases in the country, especially with teens. Cocaine is on the rise as well. And of all the drugs just listed, only marijauna is non-lethal, no matter the dosage. Marijuana is the province of full-time video junkies, or the cultural by-product of a stigma linked to rubber and textile companies in the 1920's. The fact that illegal marijuana is often found on site where serious drug busts go down is just as likely as finding alcohol or prescription medication, and to this day absolutely no violent cases have been linked to the use of marijuana, though I'll not argue that it's illegal sale certainly can be.

Remember, Americans use drugs every day. Caffeine, alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, energy drinks, tobacco, even some preservatives can be considered drugs. Even many of these can be more damaging to your body than marijuana.

The silly part is that most of it's allure to teens is its illegality. If it were a legalized product, its sale, manufacture and taxing would be regulated, and much more difficult for youths to get. (well, about as difficult as alcohol, but to be fair, at least guys don't sell alcohol on the street corners)

Sorry folks. I just quit smoking after the tabacco tax increase in our state, and I'm afraid I ranted a bit... 8O
