So, on the US version, is that the chamber of the veil again?

Looks like it....
In the other versions...it looks like the locket at the Balck family home DOES play a role AND that some action may take place in the troll-ran bank? Look at all that treasure!

Didn't we al lcome to the consensus here, as soon as we read about R.A.B. replacing the locket in the font, that R.A.B. was Regulas Black and the locket found in Grimmauld Place was definitely one of the horcruxes?
I was trying to figure out where such a treasure trove would be. I think you're spot on, and that it's someone's vault (not Harry's though) inside Gringott's. Perhaps another horcrux is supposed to be in there.
Do you thinbk that's supposed to be Gryffindore's sword in the UK picture?

You guys think that's the veil? I kinda think it looks like an arena or the parthenon.... not sure how that would fit in though and yes, Menolly, we all pretty much agreed that RAB is Regulus Black and that the locket is definitely a horcrux and it is either in the posession of Grimmauld Place or Mundungus Fletcher, or Kreacher's hidey hole.

Wow, Ipressive Guns, that you have links to so many sources.
sweet!
So far I have bought all the 'adult' covered books. Call me self-conscious...
Cool one though...

Looks like Harry is waving goodbye.

I doubt he'll die...call me naieve, but I doubt it.

I am gradually leaning to that. I personally think the ending I kinda envision would be poetically beautiful should he die the heroic manner many of us see. However, I think JK may 'wimp' out.
I hope I have to eat my words...

Paul thinks it's Hermione.
He says Hermione is Jo's 'voice' and wisdom throughout the series, hence she'll be killed off so Jo will not feel called back to write more...

Hmm...hadn't really thought about it from that angle...very plausible though. As long as she doesn't kill harry or snape, i don't care who dies.
I really dislike this book cover, the cover for HBP looked way cooler.

The death of Hermione makes little sense to me...as the story's most prominant "mudblood" it seems that she must prevail...she seems like a future headmaster to me.

I have to agree with Guns on this one. I just don't see Hermione dying. I think it's gonna be Ginny.

My guesses:
Hagrid
Snape
Voldemort
The Werewolf-bitten Weasley.

I don't think of Bill as a major character, but then Jo had said a major character would die in book 5, and I didn't consider Sirius a major character either.
I expect Voldemort to be killed; Dumbledore's interpretatation of the prophesy foreshadows it. Whether or not Harry also dies is still up in the air.
If Voldemort is the only major character who dies, I'll be disappointed. I think she means another major character other than Voldemort.
If she really wants to upset her younger readers, then I think it could also be Hagrid. But, for plot purposes I see a maudlin scene where Snape's true alliance to the good come to light just after he's killed off by the Order or Voldemort who discovers his spying for the Order.

Strange!
I usually expect U.S. covers to be the most colorful/loud in style, but the U.K. one looks busiest to me.
Still haven't tried Potter. Too busy with the flood of college/canonized literature. And even if school vanished, I'm more interested in other universes: Earthsea, Philip K. Dick, Last Chronicles, George R.R. Martin, etc.

OR went to the second hand artifact store in Knockturn alley (remember Dung sold a bunch of stuff from Grimauld Place).
I completely agree RAB is Regulus, but, I heard an interesting theory just today. The Bones family is high up on Voldemort's hit list, he's had alot of them killed off, RAB could be a Bones family member we never met
Definitely looks like a Colliseum to me, but, didn't the room with the veil resemble a Colisseum? Have no idea about the curtains being tied back like that though, that certainly doesn't fit the Veil, but, it may just be a curtain on a doorway, and the Veil isn't visible on the cover.

I think the room with the veil resembled a Colisseum, didn't Neville have to scoot up the stairs because of his ankle? But then, I think the Wizencourt room would also resemble a Colissuem...

Well one of the horocruxes could be the item that Lucius Malfoy sold to that guy in Knockturn Alley... or the item that he pocketed when Lucius wasn't watching.
JKR said that TWO characters will die... one would have to be Voldemort because most villians die in the end... as to the other...
I think it may be
Snape
A Weasley (father or one of the kids)
Harry
Dumbledore.

Wait... did I say Dumbledore? He already died... didn't he? But remember at his funeral... a great flash of flame and the body disappeared... the man always did love... phoenixes didn't he?

JKR didn't say only two would die. She said two would die who originally were supposed to live, and one got a reprieve from death. So, technically, every single character in the book could die aside from the one who got the reprieve.
Dumbledore is DEAD, he's not alive via some trick of the light.
