From the Philip K Dick award thread..

*SPIN CONTROL by Chris Moriarty (Bantam Spectra)
*CATALYST by Nina Kiriki Hoffman (Tachyon Publications)
*RECURSION by Tony Ballantyne (Bantam Spectra)

Those CANNOT be real names!
So, if you were to get your first book published, what would you call yourself?
I would possibly be Manannon MacLir.

Considering changing my real name legally, actually...

If I had any say in the matter, I'd use my own name. *shrug*

Although I think it doesn't quite sound right, I still think I would use my real name if I became and author.

It suddenly dawned on me....why not change your name to something like...'the greatest author that's ever lived'? Then, whenever a reviewer wants to talk about your book the headline to their critique will have to be '(name of book) by the greatest author that ever lived'. I bet people would buy the book just from that banner headline without reading the article!
I'll be here all week-end.

When I was a teenager, with dreams of becoming a rock star...I was going to just use my name(Drew)...I also wrote a song called 'Drew'.
I was going to title my first album 'Self Titled debut Album'--And I was going to change the name of the song 'Drew" to "Title track"...that way, it could have been anounced
"Here's the Title track from Drew's self titled debut album"
I don't think a lame joke like that would work in the literary world though.
Perhaps if you were going to change your name to "The Greatest Author who ever lived" you should title your book "The New york Times Number One best seller"

Well, Maddox titles his web page "the best page in the universe," thats sorta the same thing but in internet form.
I don't know what name I'd choose, but I'd probably pretend to be a woman. The only guy I know who's done that is khaled husseini, who (IIRC) pretended to be a woman to avoid censorship in some way.

I think I would write really cheesy trashy romance novels, the ones with the kidnapped maiden falling in love with the dashing dangerous pirate, and use the name Jay Kevinswatch......

I'd use Robert Sever. It is a shortening of my name.
