I'm not always a lush...

Like right now! I just want a nice, thick, NON-ALCOHOLIC recipe for eggnog. Apparently I'm the only person in the entire world who doesn't like rum or brandy in their tasty, tasty nog.
So- does anyone here have a recipe for eggnog that doesn't include liquor?
Please?
I get this horrible eggnog craving about this time every year. I think it's about time to do something about it.

I always make Martha Stewart's recipe for eggnog, which is knock the socks off you heavy on alcohol.
But, the nog is good without all the alcohol as well. IMO, not as good as with the liquors, but pretty good.
Would you like the recipe?

As long as it's (practically) on par with the stuff I can get in the carton during holiday season, yes please!!
I'm not saying the carton stuff is the best in the world, but it's definitely what I'm used to so it's kinda my standard.

Ah...that's different. You want the ultra-pasteurized stuff. I've found that's pretty hard to duplicate.
The closest thing I've found is a mock eggnog made with pudding mix. I could hunt that recipe down for you if you're interested.
Paul's favorite commercially made eggnog is the
Bordens brand sold in the can. I have seen it available at other times of the year, since it is canned and has a longer shelf life. Perhaps you could ask your grocer if he can still order it at this time of year?
It is a little thinner than the stuff sold in the dairy case during the holidays, but it might do in a pinch.

Mmm... nothing like a cold, thick, throat-coating eggnog on a hot day. I'm with you on this one, Waddley! As soon as I take my pills, I'll figure out how to get out of this straightjacket, I'll send you my recipe. But don't let Them see it.

Wadds, if Wayfriend's recipe isn't what you want, you can find the recipe I mentioned at
Eggless Egg Nog.

No eggs?? Isn't that the point?

Not in the ultra-pastuerized versions you buy in the carton, if I remember correctly. There are some eggs in those, but it's not a custard base made from the yolks, and whipped whites as is done with a traditional recipe.
This one without eggs is as close as I've seen to a home made version like those sold in the dairy case. But, I haven't seen Wayfriend's recipe yet.

I know, I know.
Oh! I made the eggnog... I put too much sugar in (I have problems reading, I guess) and while it wasn't
absolutely disgusting... not so good. But I got the craving out of my system. I think I'm going to wait for November to roll around before I have any more...

Oh no, Wadds!
How much sugar
did you put in?

I love the egg nog you buy in the story around Christmas time. There are a couple of different brands available for us but they are about the same IMO. I probably drink a couple of gallons of the stuff every year.
I tried some homemade egg nog at a friend's house a few years ago and it was absolutely nasty.
Thanks for the recipe Menolly, and I'd like to see the other recipes mentioned please.

I know I bolded the 'no liquor' bit above, but I have to say that eggnog is one of the few alcoholic drinks I have never tried. It just does not appeal. But hey! KW has made me try many a new thing, so who knows!?

You're welcome, Don, and here's Martha Stewart's recipe. Now, this one
is heavy on liquor!! And, I find it heavenly!
I truly think you can omit the liquors and use the base, whipped egg whites, and whipping cream for a terrific virgin version. But, it won't imitate the store bought ones. IMO, it's
much better!

Two cups, when it was supposed to be one.
I know, I know. I don't get it either.

What's the difference between a liquor and a liqueur? Anyone know?

I have my own definitions, but they probably have nothing to do with what the proper meanings are.
To me, liquor is the harder stuff. Scotch, whiskey, gin, etc. I use liqueur for other things, such as cordials, brandy, cognac, etc.
As I said, probably not right, but it's how I use them...
