KW Members meeting Atlanta GA Fall 2007

OK guys, I am thinking of planning a regional meeting for Atlanta in the Fall of 2007.

I think its a 1 - 2 day event where we can all meet, do some activities, eat and drink, exchange ideas... SInce SRD woulndt attend, I have been trying to come up with some stuff we could do to make it a worthwhile experience. Here are some ideas, but I am looking for either feedback on them or some other ideas...

Ideas:

1. Have a couple hours forum where KW members can read and discuss their writing projects. A Lot of us are struggling writers, but i dont know if enough people who could attend have anything they would want to share, read, or workshop in this sort of forum. Just an idea. I was thinking of having interested people submit the stories ahead of time so people coulde read them before they attended. Also we could include artists who could bring their work to show off and get feedback.

2. Book swap -- bring old books to swap with other members...

3. Cookout -- I would want to have everyone over and cookout -- ribs, burgers, sides, a keg, etc. a good social time to get everyone together...

4. Trivia contest -- maybe get some KW members who wont attend come up with questions and see who knows the most about TC -- have some token prizes for the winners...

5. your ideas ....

What I need you guys to do is:

1. tell me if you are interested in attending, and
2. please give me some ideas on activities you would like to do, and comment on the ones above, whether you like or dislike them.

PM me with questions -- I guess we will plan on this if there is enough interest. If there is not, Dlbpharmd and me will just get drunk that weekend. :)

I'm seriously interested. Since I missed out on Elohimfest I would love to have another event I could attend!

Depending on when it is, I may be able to make it. Atlanta is only a seven hour drive from Gator Town. In fact, if we can pay off the final $550 we owe on Beorn's camp, all three of us will be coming through Atlanta on our way to Clayton to bring Beorn to and from camp in July and August...

I would be willing to help with the cookout, and since my TC trivia knowlege is, well, trivial, I would be happy to moderate the contest.

Although... Paul was the individual state champion high score leader in Community College Brain Bowl when he competed for Broward Community College, and hopes to volunteer to coach the Quiz Bowl team at Beorn's school when he starts high school in the Fall. So if I drag them along with me, Paul may be even better at moderating or judging the contest. Paul and Beorn have both read Covenant, so it won't be total gibberish to either of them.

Tentatively, I'm in, depending on scheduling, etc. Count me out on getting drunk with you, you know I'm always the designated driver. ;)

I think a cookout is a great idea, you bragged so much about your BBQ ribs that we should get to try them.

Atlanta is definitely a good place for me, 4 hour drive and my sister lives there so I have a place to stay.

I'm in, if the weekend chosen works out at work, and I can get my wife to agree to a double-up trip (FIL is moving to Orange Beach in the next few months, so someone in the SE area for us to visit...)

I would love to suggest the weekend of November 3rd & 4th. That is UF's Homecoming weekend, and everything except retail stores and restaurants shuts down here in Gator Town from the 2nd for the parade and Gator Growl, through the game on Saturday, to recuperation on Sunday. I would love a reason to be out of town if I could afford it, and since it is not a holiday weekend like the following weekend, hotel rates should be reasonable.

Although if the game itself is available in the Atlanta area, my attention may be glued to that for the duration...

I hope to not offend, but I have vowed never to return to Atlanta. My ex's family lives there, and I never had a good time there. Especially since I typically have long hair, and the looks of death I had there shook me up. Anywhere else, and I'd consider it.

sorry to hear that. I see plenty of people with long har, excessive tatoos, bright hair colors, etc, and it doesnt seem to affect the general population.

Would hate to miss meeting you, but I understand.

Where in CA are you? I am coiming to Quebec sometime soon...

HOPEFULLY I'll be in school at that time, so I'll be poor and won't be able to come... but we'll see. I've never been that far east, and it'd be fun.

If I can't come I want pictures, you hear me?!

Actually, I live in Colorado. In the Denver area, Lakewood to be exact.

Sorry -- senior moment. Denver rocks -- i lived there as a kid, but stuck at the National Jewish Hospital for 18 months (Asthma) but I loved the town then. The west is great. Loved being in NM last week.

Hm, depending on when, I might be able to make it. I'd be solo this time, as both kids will be in college. (Hey, that's right! ) And there oughta be cheap airfares from DC to Atlanta, huh?

If it's a weekend I don't have the kids, and Cheval and Menolly want to rent a car with me, I'd be up for a road trip.

Kewl!!

That would be a heck of a lot better than depending on my over 300K mile, 1995 Chevy Astro for the trip.

My car has low mileage (93k miles, '87 Cutlass Ciera), and November might not be too hot, but I'm without a/c at the moment, and roadtrips wear you out when you have the windows down all the way. I believe the weekends I have free are the 3rd-4th and 17th-18th of November.

Helping to rent a car sounds fine to me, if I can come up with the cash. But, neither of my vans have working a/c, so I'm used to driving year round in the Florida heat and humidity, without either an ocean or gulf breeze. So I can go either way.

See above. The weekend of 11/3-4 has already been discussed and discarded. Depending on what happens when Beorn starts high school in the Fall, I could probably commit to 11/17-18...
