Hooters are good! Starting listening to them a long time ago, got back into them the same time as Big Head Todd and the Monsters first appeared (along with Blues Traveler, DMB, Crash Test Dummies and Smashing Pumpkins), right about when The Division Bell came out...

The Hooters were a fun band. Most of their songs were so catchy and singable.

They performed at my High School in 1986. Lots of energy. Everyone was dancing.

The Hooters toiled away for years before they hit. A guy I work with used to do their lights back when they were playing schools and churches.

Decent band, great live.

I kinda liked "All You Zombies"...kinda light-weights though... reminded me of that band ...I think the Kings? Had songs like "Full Moon turn my Head round" and "Switch into Glide" .

Holy shit, I didn't think anyone remembered The Kings! I had the 45 of "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide".

That music is FUN...Donny Iris, The Kings, Hooters, etc., but not the sort of thing I'd just put on every day, ya know?

There was a lot of pure unadulterated tripe as well, brought to us by any fool with a synthesiser on which they had half-wittedly constituted some amateurish maudlin riff.

I overstated the hairspray point. Pretty much all '80s music was better than modern R&B.

Bizarre that you mentioned Big Country, Guns, this discussion had only just encouraged me to pull out their "The Crossing" album that I bought second-hand 15-20 years ago and have listened to maybe once (apart from "In a Big Country" which gets a spin every 2-3 years).

Big Country is a good one. There are a number of good songs on their first 2 records. BTW, the Lead killed himself a few years back.

Null: The Hooters, prior to the national release of Nervous Night, were still playing local clubs in the Philly area when I was in high school. To promote the band, a local radio station (WMMR) held a contest for all local high schools. The school that submitted the most post cards (the hand written name of your highschool on the card) would win a free Hooters concert. I think my school had about 2000 students, so we had a pretty good advantage from the start. Other than that, high school sucked!
