EA Chief Cites Need
For More Innovative Games

While it may be approaching the very definition of irony, the CEO of Electronic Arts has hit out at the dearth of sequels and lack of innovative games developed in recent years. He says that the result is that games are just getting longer and more difficult and this is prompting casual gamers to turn to other things.

I have to agree with everything he's saying, certainly I've found myself turning away from the huge epics like Oblivion for more dip-in games like Shadowrun and Forza. MMOs are obviously an exception, but they are set apart by the social aspects of the genre form a large part of their appeal.

I think Riccitiello might be in the wrong job though, considering it's his company that sells fractionally updated versions of the NHL, FIFA, Madden and Tiger Woods' Golf games every year. They even have an entire division dedicated to churning out more Sims titles!
