Who's your favorite character in Mordant's Need?

Please explain why. Are there other characters that should have been included in the poll? Why?--I voted 4 Darsint, I guess I like "loose canons" and x-factors--makes the plot(s) much more interesting! Never kno where or when he's going 2 pop up! Adds, big time, 2 the climaxes in the story!

I would choose Elega. She's a kindred spirit to me in some ways.

Sorry!

She was my last option but the poll wouldn't take it--very good choice, y?

The Tor would be my first choice......I loved the way he bellowed outside of Joyse's chambers until he was admitted......he's very human....... But in lieu of that Artagel isn't too bad.... it's refreshing to find a hero that isn't also arrogant & I admire his loyalty to his family ~ something most of the Domne's children have in common. Then there's Geraden......he's just plain sweet.......It's hard to pick a favorite when it comes to SDR, it's his characters that attracts me most to his writing.

interesting you should say that because it reminds me of a forward or interview I read where SRD states just that .. that he himself owes his characters their integrity .. and said something to the effect that he values each of them .. and in effect he is the only God they have .. thus he owes them some responsibility .. I was greatly impressed by the intensity of his commitment to his own creations/characters .. to me it evidenced that it is far more than just a story .. or income to SRD .. but a creation into which he breathes life and continues to be responsible as a benevolent overseer.

I liked Artagel .. he was cool .. He never shirked from a fight .. he was loyal dependable and possessed of integrity! Castellan Lebbick was great too .. yeah I know he became bitter and twisted .. but that was not without good reason .. but here was another valiant soul .. loyal to his .. pathetic 'feigner of impotence' totally misguided .. King .. imo .. ..

I voted for Artagel, too. I loved the way he talked, especially his conversation with Lebbick when he got Lebbick to come out of his apartment, and I liked his personality.

Just for the record, I couldn't stand Elega. She was so full of herself, and I couldn't stand the way she looked down at Geraden and Terisa.

I liked Adept Havelock, the combination of madness and intelligence fascinated me.

was Elega so bad? .. I cant remeber her much at all .. she is the one who joined forces with Kragen against Joyse .. didnt she? Cunning .. but in the end she fell into line .. didnt she? .. I must re-read MN .. there is so much detail I no longer can recall ..

Elega just didn't have it in her personality to be nicer to Terisa. She and Kragen were well matched....

Wow, this *was* a tough choice. I picked Geraden -- I mean, he's such a doofus, how can you *not* like the guy -- but it was hard to decide between him and Havelock. And if the Tor had been on the list, it would've been even worse....

Elega

Any1 who could concieve of poisoning Orison's water supply is pretty nasty in my book...and didn't she have a hand in setting Terisa up 4 the King's Monomach 2 attack her @ the market? **Shudder** another 1 of Joyce's brilliant creations...

Well, no, danlo, not exactly...

Elega didn't have a hand in setting up the attack on Terisa by Gart, she just happened to fall into that situation. She was actually, as I see it, going to the market as a ploy (or "excuse") to meet up with Nyle and Kragen.

Picking a favorite character is tough. For example, I really like the Domne. :) Now he was a man who knew what was important in life. :D

Wasn't the Domne a great guy? All of Geraden's family were wonderful, actually (except for Nyle, maybe, but he was misguided). Thank goodness Terisa had the good sense to marry into the family....

I agree. :D

My favorite quote from the Domne (spoken while talking with Terisa about her father):
What vital and consuming work did your father do that he 'didn't have time for children'?
Like I said, a man who knew what is important in life. :D

The missing thread

I felt that I made a mistake in the nature of the "missing thread" 2 copy and paste old posts occured 2 me as an intrusion of member privacy and internet "fee-will" 4 lack of a better term--perhaps I should re-start the thread w/members copying their own old posts if they cared 2 do so--but when I copied scotty's old post I had a terrible gnawing feeling that I was violating her rights as a member,,, :?

copying our own posts .. is not as rewarding imo .. perhaps we can just think of another thread theme .. though we do have a lot of interesting threads on the go at the moment .. fear not .. all is yet well.

Poll has been revised!!!

Though I voted 4 Darsint, I'm still kicking myself 4 not putting who I consider the unsung hero of MN: The Termigan on the poll. I find it fascinating that no 1 has voted for Castellean Lebbick...however. Artagel still leads the way....!

Lebbick was a good guy .. but a sorry soul .. maybe this is the reason for the few votes.

The Termigan .. there's a good one! :P
