In the Wounded Land, Soothtell. This chapter is absolutely turbo-charged and packed chuck full of amazing information & nearly outta control white gold wielding action. TC's is large and utterly in charge in this very exciting part.

There is a quote (among many) that got me wondering though. This one -

Had any of these conditions failed, the summoning would have failed, and Lord Foul would have been left to harm the Land, the Earth, without hope of achieving his final goal-the destruction of the Arch of Time. Only by destroying the Arch could he escape the prison of Time. Only with wild magic could he gain freedom and power to wage his hatred of the Creator across the absolute heavens of the cosmos.

Does this mean that if Foul had failed to summon TC he would have harmed not just the Land but the 'real' world? Foul's destructive powers can stretch beyond the Land? I know that he can manipulate beyond the Land but to say cause something like a Sunbane on Earth is pretty profound.

LF w/o white gold (TC) - "harm to the Land & Earth"
LF with broken AoT - "wage his hatred across the absolute heavens of the cosmos." - run away! run away!

(if you look at that scenario, damage seems less with white gold far away from the Land.)

I'm sure that this was brought up before but... if the AoT was destroyed would it effect the 'real' world? The "absolute heavens of the cosmos" line leads me to think yes. If yes, then I think it could be safe to assume that the deities of the Land would become / be added to, the same ones on Earth. Cause I think I work with a Raver.

Well I think the point is that a complete victory cannot be acehived without white gold, nor can a complete defeat. Which is better, an imprisioned foul on a ruined world, or foul free and the land destroyed? either way, the Land is gone.

Does it affect our own -- not sure. I have argued that the Land is real, but not sure how they are connected, deity-wise.

I think perhaps when it says "the Land, the Earth" it is because 'the Land' is only a small portion of the world LF is in; the whole world where the Land is situated has been referred to as 'the Earth' more than once, I think--that is, the word is not used referring to our planet, but as a general term for the entire 'world' of the Land.

Right, but if it was a known certainty that LF can effect the 'real' world by collapsing the the Arch of Time, why take the risk of introducing white gold into the Land if it was possible to destroy both? Cut your losses... okay I lost the Land but I still have the other. Is the AoT over all planes?

i dont think that is a certainty. if it was known indeed that our earth were affected, I doubt it would make a difference anyway-- The summonses of TC and Linden took place from the Lands Earth and i doubt they know or care about our world when theirs is destroyed. its not like Covenant or Linden had a choice in being summoned -- TC would never let them kill Joan even if it meant the earth's destruction, so his fate was set. So was Linden's. Therefore, i dont see how it makes a differece.

OMG, Dawngreeter, I, too, work with a Raver!!!! She raves non-stop!!! I'm going to get her to say "Nom........"

I suspect that my last gf was a Raver and her favourite colour was green. Maybe she also had a fragment of the Illearth Stone hidden somewhere

I always pity the poor French, where that word is merely "Name" in their language

Semiseriously though, there must be some kind of link between the Land and the "Real World" - and it seem to me as though the rather evil pseudoChristian cult is that link. TC was even calling the character that appeared in the flames "Foul" - after 10 years, he recognised eveil when he saw it and Lord Foul's hand.

It was as if the sacrifices of the folk at that ceremony has the power to summon LF to the "real world".

I've often thought that I'd like to see the link between the Land's earth and the Real World explored a bit more.
