Kevin's Watch

So I checked facebook out a month or so ago. Didn't see anything that really grabbed my attention. Well, I got an email notification for a friend request from a guy I went to high school with. Having no friends is understandable, but one seems kind of pathetic. So, I created the Kevin's Watch group. Feel free to join and hit me up (I'm also the only person who comes up on search for "Stephen R. Donaldson").

Well, that's just spooky.

I just signed up, and was about to start a 'facebook' thread.

Hahahaha! Edge got me to sign up earlier today! I just went back on it and sent Syl a friend request.

The concept of what Facebook and MySpace is used for is beyond my comprehension.

Help?

It's a place where you can join communities and customize your pages with pictures and things about yourself. Facebook even offers a function where you can "poke" people. I poked Edge earlier.

Not to be droll but...

Why?

Can't we do all that here?

Well, the concept is that you can go to my profile page and find out all about me! My birthday, what I look like, my interests, who my friends are etc. etc. And also it's a little more lenient with what is acceptable and not acceptable about what you post there. I admit I was a little shocked by those nekkid pictures Edge posted but hey, to each their own!

Once you're hiooked you can't stop.

You just join groups and groups and more groups.

I've never joined myself, but I've seen plenty of friends go down that dark and dirty path.

I've gotten numerous emails from members wanting me to be on their friends lists...the way I see it...

if these people already have my email address...why do they ned a new forum in which to talk to me.

If I want to POKE a friend..I'll call them up (the phone still workds)

And if I haven't talked to you since tenth grade english class..there's probebly a good reason for that

My partner joined Facebook a week ago and became addicted for abut 2 days but he doesn't have any friends so... <cheeky grin>

Then again, I joined so that I could be his friend...and my only friend is him so... I shall search you all out!!!

I really, truly, don't understand...

...and no one's emailed me an invite to be a friend anyway...

--Think of it as a message board...but where your profile is always visible...and everyone can read every message that everyone else has sent you...and they can read everymessage that you have sent toeveryone else.

It's like a web forum..message board...MSM messenger...Yahoo chat...and MySpace all rolled up into one.

I don't understand the draw myself.

One thing is the ease of it...like, you don't have to know anyone's user name.

If you wanted to connect with someone you haven't seen in twenty years...all you have to do is type "Jane Doe" into the search bar...and you'll get a list of everyone called "Jane Doe" and their picture...so you can peruse and find the one you know.


It's more of a fad than anything...It's suposed to be the new Internet revelution...but people get bored or sick of it lots.

I've heard that it's supposed to be the new MySpace...I'v also heard that it barely has half the Active users that MySpace does.

It's fun. I keep in touch with nearly all of my friends through it.

Well...I would say it must be a generational thing, but...

...nah, I better not go there...

I just don't get the appeal. But then, I don't hesitate to generally spill my guts anywhere anyway...
