Why do I love the chicken enchiladas verde that they have at the local Mexican place so much? Is it the shredded, seasoned chicken with the queso poured on it that they lovingly wrap in a tortilla? Is it the sour cream that they smear on it? Is it the tasty salsa verde that they pour all over it? Or is it the shredded, melted goat cheese that they liberally pile on top of it all? It is a heart attack on a plate, but damn it's good.

Mexican food is so good.

I figured out how to make a chimichanga the other day without a deep fryer, and I stretched my stomach out for the week.

(Brush the outside of a flour tortilla with oil; stuff; wrap; bake for 10; top with cheese; back for 5 more; cover with salsa, sour cream, and lettuce; serve with black beans and moist spanish rice and a corona.)

Baked egg rolls or crab rangoon work pretty much the same way.

No cheese added of course.

My favorite Tex-Mex is the super burrito. A local place, Las Palmas, makes my favorite one: there's so much guacamole, tomato cubes, and sour cream that you can't even see the massive burrito buried beneath.

Since we have the Food Rants thread, I decided to bump this one up.

Let's broaden the topic. What foods do you crave?

While I love lobster, and I'll happily consume either sex at anytime, I guess it's not the lobster I'm craving.

I'm craving a female in particular because at the moment I want the lobster roe...

I love Mexican, but I only eat it when I go to London as there are no Mexican restaurants in North Wales and precious few in Nottingham (and those there are tend to be of the trendy, not-really-Mexican type).

I'm craving the carne asada tacos at my favorite mexican restaurant. They chop beef into small pieces, marinade it in something absolutely wonderful, and grill it to perfection. Then they serve it on a double thickness of these tiny corn tortillas with cilantro, onion and lime wedges. I usually order it as a lunch, and then it also comes with (real!) refried beans and rice. As a lunch it's only $4.99, or a la carte each taco is $1.59.

And Menolly, the current special at our local frozen custard place is the key lime pie concrete. They take a slice of homemade key lime pie and blend it with vanilla frozen custard. It's incredible.

for some reason i started thinking about this cereal. never a favorite. but i hadn't had it in a long time. so i went to stuff-mart to get some. none there. went on line. it has benn deleted some two years ago. still no idea what made me think of it.

My wife just surprised me for supper with a homemade sampler of fried green tomatoes, vidalia onion rings, and fried zucchini. We don't usually eat fried food, let alone deep-fried...
Oh man, was it good! The onion rings alone were worth their weight in gold. Light, crispy, crunchy, slightly chewy, and full of mild but broad sweet-onion flavor, with a hint of pepper. Fried in canola oil, so the oil doesn't soak down into your soul... makes onion rings from a freezer pouch seem like a waste of time.

For my weight's sake, it's good she doesn't do this very often!
