THE ROLES ARE GREAT FOR ACTORS AND WILL ATTRACT TOP TALENT. WHAT ARE YOUR IDEAS FOR THE LEAD ROLES OF ANGUS, MORN AND NICK?

What are the essential elements of Morn's character, and who should play her?

Jennifer Connelly has the look and qualitites to portray the haunted broken innocence that Morn has.

She does.

But Morn is fresh out of the Academy, in her early twenties. Make-up, lighting and acting talent can make up for a lot, but there are limits.

Ah a tough one that I've never put a lot of thought to.

She must appear young and beautiful and then strung out and broken like a heroin addict, yet still with enough strength to rise above it all.....

1st - Charlene Theron. "Monster", "Aeon Flux", and "Legend of Bagger Vance." A great actor who has proven she can go from 'hot' to 'not.'

2nd - Christina Ricci. She just looks so innocent and young. Beat the crap out of her and see if she can act.

Otherwise, Emma Rossum has the sme thing in my eyes, plus the youth that Conneley doesn't.

One actress who has certainly proven she can go from young and innocent to beat-up and trashy is . . . . Lindsey Lohan. But she'd make a horrible Morn.

Clearly, we need to rethink our criteria here. I vote for an unknown actress.

Malik's got the best idea--a new face.

Here's a casting strategy: pick your Angus and Nick, then choose a fresh ingenue that has zero chemistry with both.

Or something like that.

I'd prefer to do Keira....Knightly. Although she has fallen into this skeletal phase that I wish she'd get over. Someone hand her a sammich, dammit.

I really like It Is Written's idea...chose someone hot who can act and express real pain who has no chemistry with the main characters. Perfect.

I've always pictured Morn as a blonde. Actually, for some reason, I always thought this book cover was for the wrong book, and should have been on a Gap book. This seems to me like how I've always pictured Morn.

I've always thought that cover should have been called The Moons of the Mustbegotten!

How about...

Hayden Panettiere

And not just because I am totally in love with her.

No no no.

I agree with Jennifer Connelly (and have suggested her myself) but she is too old now. Keira is pretty, but I've yet to see her in anything where she didn't give quite a poor performance.

Ok, Morn is described as dark haired and so beautiful that she's almost bland. Now, the precise details can probably be sacrificed if the right actress is found (I'd rather have a blonde but convincing Morn than a brunette but wooden one) but I just can't think of any who are both Morn's age and capable of portraying her.

Now I think there are two who are vaguely of the right-ish age, and who look the part: Kristin Kreuk and Morena Baccarin. I'm not convinced either one has the acting ability to portray Morn, though - but then again, I can't think of anyone who does.

We keep bringing up the extremity with which Morn deals, but what will they be in a movie? Certainly not as graphic, but will that lessen the impact for the audience?

The problem with casting Morn here is that what each of us imagined in the book is as different as brunette and blonde (not that hair color matters to the actress--not since Sigourney Weaver went blonde for Galaxy Quest). Donaldson's description of her beauty is so subjective (what is bland beauty?), casting agents will ignore it and pick anyone who can act. I don't have a problem with that.

I don't have a problem with Morena either.

I had a discussion with Gart, Darth and nav about young actresses in a pub the other week. Between the four of us, we came up with very few young-ish actresses who can act. I, in fact, came up with none. They're all rusbbish.
