Wow, Edge, good stuff!
We have so many gifted poets that I'm starting to think we should do a KW Poetry Chapbook next....

You guys are distracting Edge with all your KeWaPoMo talk when he should be concentrating on those love poems he's supposed to be writing me.

I'm all for a Kevin's Watch poetry book. It's be a nice companion to the KW Anthology.
I just hope we have enough contributors. I know myself, null, and Edge post poems here a lot. Maybe we can drag danlo into this?

I think your writing's brilliant, Sarge.
And yeah, I think this is an excellent idea. I'm sure there are others who would be interested, too . iQuestor? Seareach?

I like to write poetry! I would submit some for consideration.

yeesh! you GUYS (and girls)!!!! hang ON!!
so...okay...the idea is this...
NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, right? i know several of you have done that. you commit to writing 50,000 words or thereabouts in a month's time. they have a website and you can keep track of everybody's progress and everybody has a great and nerve-wracking time writing.
that happens in november i think.
anyhow...my idea is to have a Kevin's Watch Poetry Month wherein we all commit to writing a poem a week for a month. we have a sign up thread where we all swear to god (or whatever) that we'll all do it.
each week we post our poems for the week, a thread per week, right? with everybody's poems in it.
and then...at the end of the month (i'm guessing 4 or 5 weeks), whoever has done all the poems, every week, will be in the KeWaPoMo book.
so see...no submissions. no rejections. no charges of favoritism or elitism.
if you do it, you're in. simple.
when the month is over, we collect all the poems in a file, aTomic has already agreed he'd help us (i know that was ages ago but you SAID you'd help) and get somebody (dANdelion or Edge or Jwaneeta or any of the wonderful artist here at the Watch) to do a cover for us.
boom. book o pomes.
whaddaya think?

Well, that's cool and all but if you guys really think I am a lousy poet I don't want you to be forced into publishing me....

Luci...
Would the threads the poems are posted on be hidden? So that those who do not contribute, but want to read the poems, have to buy the book?
I strongly feel if the book is going to be physically made, then it needs an incentive for those of us not in it to buy it. And if the poems are available for all to see on the Watch, why would we pay for it?
If put to a vote, I would say the poetry threads should be hidden from such as me.

oh stop it. you do it, you're in. nothing could be simpler.
besides...we can workshop the stuff in the writers forum before we publish.
menolly wrote:I strongly feel if the book is going to be physically made, then it needs an incentive for those of us not in it to buy it. And if the poems are available for all to see on the Watch, why would we pay for it?
you're kidding right? if you can read them on the Watch for free why would you
buy them????

Really??? THAT'S your concern?
lordy pam, leave it to you to see it from a monetary angle. <sigh>
I'LL buy it, pam. because my
work will be in it with everyone else's and i'll want to have a copy of that, for my own edification. i venture to guess anybody who's
in it and who has sweated over the work will want to buy a copy of it too. and probably 2 or 3 to give away to their parents or whatever.
its not about making money. it's about
the work. get it?

*nod*
I don't know how self publishing works.
Does someone have to lay the money out first for each copy to be printed? That's my concern, that someone will pay to print up say 50 copies, and only 20 or so will sell, if the poems are available for all to see.

NaNo-style poetry writing: great idea but I think you'd have to count me out--I can't write like that (well, I probably could I'd hate to think what the results would be like!

).
Menolly. As far as I know the KW anthology doesn't have an upfront fee so what you're talking about isn't an issue.

You guys are too funny.
Luci, this is a GREAT idea. Let's pick a month. Hmm, how about...October?
Av, fer cryin' out loud, do we need to take up a collection to buy you a copy?
Menolly, if we go through Lulu again (which I assume we would), it's printing on demand -- which is to say, they only print a book when somebody orders one. The KW t-shirts are done the same way -- CafePress only prints one when it's ordered.
Sarge, free verse *better* be accepted, because I'm too lazy to try to write stuff that rhymes anymore....
