Welcome to The (your name) Raver Thread, where I will...

...posses your mind and soul in search of answers to the dislexic insanity that is my quest for understandig and logic...

WARNING: This ball may unwind quickly...Beware! (no cats allowed)

Q1: If the Illearth Stone comes from the One Rock (or is it One Stone)...then why is it evil? How was it corrupted?

Q2: How is it that a piece of wood, the Staff of Law, can corrupt a piece of stone, the moon?

Q3: (this one may be REALLY naive 'cause I haven't read da books in a while) Why doesn't C just confront LF in the 2nd Chrons? (I guess this is the preverbial "why don't the eagles just fly Froto to Mt. Doom" question)...and please don't just answer outright...if there was a legitimate reason in the books, did it really feel legit, or was it an eagerness to explore this world that let your feelings allow logic to fall away...

Answers!

The Illearth Stone does not come from the One Rock. (I think it was Rock, but I wouldn't swear to it.) Pieces of orcrest are said to come from the One Rock. The Illearth Stone is a bane the Despiser put into the earth during the earth's creation, while the Creator's attention was, I guess, on another part of the creation.
jacob Raver, sinTempter wrote:Q2: How is it that a piece of wood, the Staff of Law, can corrupt a piece of stone, the moon?
Well, it wasn't exactly wood that did it, but the Earthpower that the Staff channels. And the Staff can channel quite a bit of Earthpower!

I don't think he was ready yet. He had to look for things he thought would help him, and learn more. In particular, he had to come up with a good plan. He wasn't able to use the wild magic at will in the beginning, and he hadn't yet conceived of what he ended up doing.

Much thanx and nice to meet you, Fist and Faith...

Q4: In a film version, would you combine the IllearthStone/OneRock/Orcrest concepts together so-as not to confuse the audience? (Foul tore a piece from the One Rock while Big C was taking a leak, corrupts it and absentmindedly misplaces, having to employ a half-wit Cavewight thousands of years later to find it)

Q5: If the SoL is truly that powerful (as a channel of EP), then why-cum Drool doesn't just go to Revelstone and pummel it after he turns the moon red...I think once he did that, he'd want to test his power directly...I don't remember Drool wanting to toy with them...and I think that there is a contradiction in the concept that Drool's too ignorant to understand how to "really" use the Staff when he can do something THAT powerful...

I will oppose any film version of TCTC with every fibre of my being.

Drool was being controlled by Foul. And Foul didn't want to do that, because it wouldn't have pursuaded Covenant to hand over his ring. At least not in the beginning, before Covenant cared about the Land.

Q1: Agree with Fist

Q2: Drool didn't affect the moon at all. He changed the appearance of the moon by altering the emanations of Earthpower in the air (just like the Sunbane didn't actually come from the sun, but from corrupted Earthpower.)

Q3: Covenant was terrified of the venom; he felt that a direct confrontation with Foul would destroy the Arch. The soothtell told him that the Sunbane arose from the destruction of the SoL, so naturally Covenant believed that another Staff would fix the problem.

Q4: Agree with Fist again. I don't want to see a movie from the Covenant series.

Q5: Damn, Fist is so smart! ;)

Welcome to the Watch, Jacob!
Thank you. (just playing "in-character"...hope I'm not offending anyone)
:) :goodnevil:
Q6: Why is the Heart of the Earth? Not what...why does it exist? I mean, if there's the One Stone, why is there the HotE near the skin of the earth? Does it make sense or is it explained?

Q7: The Power of Command comes from the Blood of the Heart of the Earth...as far as I'm aware, SRDs reasoning for the bleeding is not set in stone, something about the weight of the mountain, which metaphorically doesn't seem clear to me...so why would the Power come from something so inadvertant?

Q8: Why is it that while the Earth spoke to Berek at Melenkurian Skywier, it was at Kiril Threndor that the fire lions were released...if there is good under Skywier, and evil under Thunder, why-cum the FireLions are at the evil place?

I've spent the last four years trying to figure that out, and I never got even CLOSE to one that funny. :D

I was under the impression that Mt. Thunder wasn't in and of itself evil, but it was where Foul had taken up abode. Hence, he corrupted it. So before he was there, it was probably full of pretty butterflies and Fire-lions.

Have you figured it out yet, Balon? I have a guess...

Read FR for the fire-lions question--it may not answer directly, but indirectly, it does.

Same deal for the Earthblood--or just reread TIW; the Blood is pretty much raw Earthpower, and from what I gather it comes from a sort of "vein" underneath Melenkurion Skyweir, and is like the lifeblood of the Land. It's what makes Garroting Deep so Earthpowerful.

Q6: I don't remember anything about the "Heart of the Earth."

Q7: We really don't have a reason for the Blood of the Earth coming out a this location. Anything that we've been told about it came from Amok, and he was speculating.

Q8: Berek was at Mount Thunder when the Earth spoke to him, not Melenkurion Skyweir.

Yur right, homes...I think I subconciously pulled the proper name from Amok: "It bleeds here-perhaps because the great weight of melenkurion Skyweir squeezes it from the dense rock-or perhaps because the mountain is willing to lay bear it's hearts-blood..."
Q8: Berek was at Mount Thunder when the Earth spoke to him, not Melenkurion Skyweir.

Umm, oops...[/quote]
