In the Last (and Third) Chronicles, I think that it's pretty much going to be inevitable that Covenant's existence is literally made . . . well . . . non-existent--I mean, if it's true what SRD says about the Land being wiped out and all. I mean, in order for SRD to preserve the whole "is the Land real" mystery, then he's going to have to have Covenant killed off at the same time the Land is destroyed, which will preserve the myth and keep it all slick. What this does to Linden, I don't know. Heck, maybe this was a bad idea. Shouldn't speculate too much. But, uh, logic and evidence (the 1997 interview) do draw hints as to how the Last Chronicles will conclude.

The world would come to and end.

WHICH world? The one that the Land is in? The "real" world? Both, since it was stated before that they're both connected in some way?

SRD once stated, and I paraphrase, that it's important for the focus of the story to not be on whether the Land is real or not. So, he's not going to answer that question, I think. That in mind, if a world were destroyed or brought to an end, then it would have to be the Land . . . If Covenant's home world--where he and Linden came from--were destroyed with the Land, then that would answer the question of the Land's ultimate reality and its true relation to everything else. This, as I said, is something SRD is not going to focus on in the Last Chronicles.

Okay, also, I think SRD was rumored to have said he wanted no more books after the Last Chronicles--or people writing about the Land in his stead. That being said, I'm sure there'll be no Land--hence, nothing more to write about.

However, SRD could destroy Covenant's world, and not let us see whether or not the Land survives.

Freaking NO, F&F! If the "real world" is in any way shape or form destroyed, then it's saying, "HEY! The Land is real! Mystery solved!" I mean, if the "real world" is in any way affected by the Land, then we're talking major divergence from what SRD wanted to do: focus away from the Land's connection to earth and focus more on the conflicts of one TC and Linden Avery!

I think folks hate to speculate because, well, based on what SRD has told us so far in interviews and such, we can pretty much tell what will probably happen.

Well, it's my opinion that the question about the Land being "real" has already been settled by SRD - the Land IS real. That was a big question in the first trilogy, since Covenant was fighting with his unbelief. But Linden coming to the Land with Covenant in the second trilogy answers that question for us. That's why he doesn't want to discuss it anymore - both because he has already answered it by bringing Linden with Covenant, and because the question itself doesn't matter anymore since Covenant has come to grips with his unbelief.

Then why in the 1997 would SRD not give a straight answer if the Land were real or not? He just said it "wasn't important". Obviously, he has not conclusively or flat-out said, "Hey folks, it's real!" And I think one should note the fact that when you go into the Land, no matter what happens to you, you're going to come back to the "real world". If you had a wound, then the Land will give you that wound before you leave (Like when Hile Troy hit Covenant on the head or whatnot).

So, well, I think it all points out, logically, that in the Third Chronicles, when Linden goes to the Land, she's going to come back to earth. Which means the "real world" will still have to be there. It won't be destroyed, but the Land is still open for destruction. Then again, the real world might be destroyed . . . if Linden dies . . . Ack, too much speculation! OH NO!

What I mean is, Covenant's world gets destroyed at the end, and that's all we know. The series ends with its destruction, and we are left wondering if the Land still exists.

But if an event in the Land causes, inherently, for the destruction of Covenant's "real world", then that'll answer the question that SRD is NOT going to answer.

And if the event that causes Covenant's world's destruction is NOT in the Land? Maybe nuclear war wipes out everything. SRD didn't say which world would be destroyed, did he? I'm just sayin'!!

Heh, I was going to say something about Linden being in the Land and a Giant goes, "We got news, Linden! World War III is going on at home!" So if a nuke hits Linden's body in the "real world", then in order for the myth of "real or not" to stay, then she'll have to somehow get vaporized in the Land before she returns! COOL!!

In my scenario, we'd see her get hit by the nuke in the "real world" along with everything else, but that would be the end of the story. We'd be thinking, "But is she still doing stuff in the Land? Is the Land gone too? Could someone else somehow be transported to the Land, and hear stories about Covenant and Linden?" But we'd never know.
