Superchicken rocks! I could be mis-remembering, but I think I actually saw the pilot episode, where Don Knotts voiced Super Chicken...

Keep in mind the first issue is only one dollar. Probably worth it just to take a look. The artwork by Alex Ross is of course gorgeous, and he actually makes us believe in what should be ridiculous costumes. The Fighting Yank in particular seems to have one of the silliest outfits ever designed for a superhero--I mean, the tricorn hat alone! But it works.

As for story...
Spoiler
The retired Fighting Yank, now an old man, finds himself visited by a spectral being wrapped in an American Flag. It tells him he is about to die, but also that he was horribly wrong in what he did on CIA orders at the end of WW2. It was he who captured Pandora's Box from Hitler--a repository of all the world's worst evils, which had been reopened by Hitler. But within the box was also Hope, which took the form of the costumed heroes of the era. To trap the Evil, then Hope would also have to be sealed within the box (actually an urn). So that is what he did--trapping each of his allies in limbo. And now, this spectral being points out that the Evil he tried to contain is still free. But the champions to fight it are gone. The urn was not an opportunity, but a trap. And he must make amends--quickly--to return the heroes of yesteryear to the world of the living. Even if it cost him his own life.
I'm looking forward to the next issue. :D
