I think this new series sounds like it could be very promising, and as a big Firefly fan, I am pretty excited about seeing a new series from Whedon.

I gush like a schoolgirl over Firefly, but I've never had the desire to watch a single episode of any of Joss's other endeavors, and I loathed Alien: Resurrection (which he co-wrote).

This premise looks interesting, though more than a little close to Dark Angel.

aka the Angel Supremacy. Ah well. At least Dushku's a better actress than Alba, though that says practically nothing.

FYI, before AR Whedon won an Oscar for Toy Story, and Joss's not particularly pleased about the way Alien Ressurection turned out either; FWIW, he also wrote WaterWorld, which I know many of you most likely particuarly dislike, but it's not really half bad (I only saw it for the first time this last year, and I expected a real barfest, but it turned out better than my expectation (having Tina Majorino and Jeanine Tripplhorn helped lots)). IMO, AR is better than Battle beyond the Stars, Phantom Menace or AoTC or Star Trek V or Star Trek: Nemesisand it's about as good as RotZ. I thought this sounded a little like Dark Angel, too.

I gather that the final script for AR was a bit distant from his version, which included an earth-side battle. I remember seeing a quote from Whedon (can't link it), in which he made sport of the final product. That is, killing off the alien queen in favor of its bizarre, man-like offspring.

Could be interesting. So far, the premise doesn't do a lot for me, but time will tell.

It certainly will be interesting to see how it pans out. It has potential in theory...

I swear I remember Whedon saying in a Firefly commentary (or somewhere...) that he would never work with Fox again?

Maybe he meant Michael J. Fox.......

Woah, four pages back. Anyway, I kept watching, and it did get better. Strangely enough, my conversion to actually liking the show occurred around the same time that I realized I like women in white, thigh-high stockings.

It's been picked up for a second season, and it looks like Whedon will have far more executive control than the first half of the first season.

Didn't see it (no tv) but I'll probably pick it up on dvd.

Damn! If they're really going in that direction, the show will be unmissable. I hear there's another post-apocalyptic show coming this fall, and that's just fine by me.

Interesting character for Zack Ward (more along the lines of his role in A Christmas Story ). Kept waiting for someone to smack him on the back of the head and yell, "Dave!"

i just started watching this on hulu and i like it. alpha was hella creepy!!

i didn't watch any of the first season except the last episode cause hulu only had that one on there, but i've watched all the second season thus far.

I'm about six or seven episodes into season 1 of Dollhouse. I have to say...it may well be Joss Whedon's masterwork. Including Firefly. The one thing it lacks is characters as likeable as the crew of Serenity.

I have every intention of watching this someday. And it sounds like the series is wrapping up now, dammit. Why can't he get a show off the ground? And why aren't I a Nielson family?

I think the thing that keeps dropping Whedon in the poo is ambition. His one big success began with a very simple premise: reverse the 'vulnerable teenage girl' tradition. Firefly was quite bold and ambitious, and Dollhouse is downright visionary. Money people don't sign on for vision, or for thickly layered complexity that unfolds over the course of years. They sign on for accessibility and gimmicks. Buffy developed depth later, but started off simple. Firefly might have made it, but Dollhouse was doomed from the outset.
