Greatest TV Icons

According to Entertainment Weekly.

Well, 100-51 anyway.

Lots 'o good people on the top half of the list. I'm going to immediately take issue with Phil Hartman at #87 (he deserves a top ten finish), and both Ted Knight (#82) and Tom Selleck (#67) should be in the top 20 or 30.

I'm going to reserve judgement until I see the top 50; then, when I see who they left out, I'm gonna bitch mightily!

There are several of them that I think should be higher, several that I don't get why they are there at all. But, like dAN, I'll try to reserve judgement until the list is complete.

Selleck's moustache should be listed at #67, with Selleck Himself in the top 20 for sure. My guess is that this poll with be current-centric. #1 must be Carson or Homer Simpson, period.

My money's on either Carson or Lucy at #1.

I had initially thought Carson, but didn't think of Lucille Ball. Good call, Cail. And actually, I personally think she deserves it!

Off the top of my head, some predictions for other possible top ten:
Mary Tyler Moore
Lassie
Alan Alda
Walter Cronkite
Howard Cosell
Big Bird (or Kermit or Bert & Ernie.....at least one of them)
Captain Kangaroo
Carroll O'Connor
Carol Burnett
Capt. Kangaroo
Andy Griffith
Jerry Seinfeld
Oprah Winfrey
Homer Simpson

Has anyone mentioned Ted Danson? I hope not.

No one mentioned Ted Danson (except the list).

And Bob Saget's name never came up.

Umm....#11. And why is that?

Damm I missed that...but no you're right she doesn't deserve to be on anywhere that high on the list...crap I'd rate "The Hoff" over her!!! (at least he's been on 3 shows and that Baywatch is insanely popular in Europe).

Where's Bob Denver on the list? No, not just for the Gilligan reruns. Youngsters forget that he played the consumate beatnik icon (and probably the model for Shaggy on Scooby Doo-and would have probably played Jughead, had they made an Archie series) Maynard G. Krebbs on the old Dobbie Gillis show.

One hit wonders like Barr and Adam West don't add up to much-but Gods what pull Marlo Thomas got from one (and not so long running) show! 8O

Regis Philbin's a serious stretch unless you lived in LA for his other show there or remember him as the sidekick on The Joey Bishop show. OK. Millionaire, but eh...

Where did James Garner end up? Sheese for Maverick and The Rockford Files he has to be above-Diahann Carroll, Flip Wilson, and Sarah Jessica Parker...and my Dad would probably add his fav TV actor, David Jansen (the Robert Mitchum of TV) for The Fugitive and Harry O. Flip Wilson! Dang I don't get it-sure he was funny on Laugh-In, but those were bit sketches, yeah he did a few Dean Martin Roasts and some Hollywood Squares but Paul Lynde was much funnier. I don't even think Sienfled should be on the list as I am one of the few people he rubs the wrong way, I can't stand the bastard...simply can't stand him!!!

speaking of Paul Lynde, is Charles Nelson Reilly on the list? Nipsy Russell? Ruth Buzzie? :?

And Flip had his own show danlo? And it rocked? :P

I think I missed The Flip Wilson Show--I was trapped at boarding school. We weren't allowed to watch TV.
