Evidence for a Parallel Universe?
The idea of alternative, or parallel universes has been around for quite a while and has provided considerable inspiration for Sci-Fi literature and sparked endless philosophical debate, but although being seriously considered within the scientific realm it never crossed the limits of speculative or purely theoretical grounds. Perhaps until now. If Mersini-Houghton is right, Eridanus’ giant hole would be the first experimental evidence for the existence of another universe. The implications of this possibility are obviously of huge importance for everybody, but it also has further relevance for the astrophysics community as it would bring support for the hotly debated string theory and other central debates.

We already have evidence of Parallel Universes.

Well, I'm not a Theoretical Physicist, but I can't begin to understand how this 'hole' could be evidence of the 'shadow' of another universe.

there's another universe under your thumbnail.

Shhh! That's where I'm constructing my tax shelter!

Suppose it depends on what we mean by parrallel. Merely in space? Or in the sense of alternate versions of ourselves?

i think it means next door neighbors.

More plausible. Although I've always liked the Everett-Wheeler-Graham Model. The idea anyway.

That's not evidence for a parallel universe.

Luci, your link goes to a new topic page. But I was just going to post this link anyway (albeit in the sci-fi/sci-fact thread):
Parallel universe proof boosts time travel hopes
Science fiction looks closer to becoming science fact, reports Roger Highfield
Parallel universes really do exist, according to a mathematical discovery by Oxford scientists that sweeps away one of the key objections to the mind boggling and controversial idea.

ok that's really weird

i have no idea how i did that. perhaps my parallel self. heh.
Here's the real Link

Uh, yeah, it is. What do you think they're interacting with?

You're arguing for discrete particles interacting with another dimension? The last time I checked, the Double-Slit Experiment showed how particles have a wave form. It says nothing about parallel universes.

I'll have to dig up my books on the subject, but I was fairly sure Brian Greene, or whatever his name is, said in 'The Elegant Universe' that the double-slit experiment was evidence of Parallel Universes, due to the fact that since the particles weren't interfering with themselves, they had to be being interfered with by other particles being fired by other experimentors preform the same experiment in a parallel universe.

I have the Elegant Universe. One thing I have to say about Mr Greene. He's a String Theorist. Therefore any claim/theory he makes is open to doubt; there's no experiment to support his claims. However, he's a very smart guy.
Regarding his claim, the particles are interfere with themselves; that's the basis for the experiment, as their wave forms interfere
over time. See Tonomura's experiment for strong support that they have be interfered with from other particles in the same experiment to produce the pattern.
