I would be more than happy to take whatever digital file you've got, reformat it for the Kindle (and/or epub), and slap it up at Amazon (and/or Smashwords). :)

Also, I said in '08 that I'd edit the next anthology, and then we didn't do one. If y'all want to resurrect that project, lemme know. I'm still on board. :)

Good idea Ali. :D

We should do it with all of them.

Anyway, I think that would work all right, ali, thanks for offering. I don't know much about how it all works. I only figured out enough to 1) put them on Lulu and eventually 2) retire them on Lulu. We can talk more later, I'm a bit busy at the moment. As long as my name isn't attached to them at all, I should be happy. ;)

Yeah, my experience is definitely more recent than yours. Happy to wait 'til you've got time. (We've waited this long...)

My only concern with those old pdf files is converting them to Word. OCR has come a long way since the '90s, but it still ain't pretty. (Just ask SRD...) And if we try just uploading the pdfs, as is, to KDP, they'll get kicked back at us in a hurry. Ebook formatting is a different animal than print formatting. But let's see how it goes.

Har har ;)

I'll check, I may have the original DOCs.

There were three anthologies. Perhaps we can combine them all into one large omnibus?

We may want to involve aTOMic as well, as he spearheaded the original anthologies.

Might also want to get permission from all the contributors, though that might be tricky.

I was thinking about permissions, yeah. Not sure how to get hold of everybody anymore. I guess we could send out one round of spam to everybody on the Watch and ask anyone who contributed to one of the anthologies, but who would *not* want their work published in a new edition, to notify...uh...somebody. Me, I guess.

An omnibus would be doable. And the original .doc files would be spectacular.

We should also think about price. Smashwords would let us set it free forever, but KDP wants at least 99 cents.

Do you have the original docs TOM?

This is just another edition. Permission is surely implicit, considering they gave permission to the first edition?
aliantha wrote:An omnibus would be doable.
Meh, I think I prefer 3 volumes.

If we have to set a price, we can give it to charity. Or Jay can have it for hosting costs.

I don't have the original documents, at least not the final versions.
Who knows what old files I have on my storage drive along with install files for Duke Nukem, Netscape Navigator and Windows 95?

I will take a look though.

I either have PDFs or DOCs, but I'll have to check.

I still vote for one large omnibus, mainly because the originals had lame names:
-Kevin's Watch Anthology 2006
-Kevin's Watch Anthology 2006 1/2
-Kevin's Watch Anthology 2007

I mean, really? That "1/2" always bothered me, ha.

If you are going to keep them separate, then they need new names. To have the year in the title makes them feel too dated (literally).

And I would prefer to make it as free as possible and have nothing to do with the money if you were forced to set a price.

Give it to charity then. Ali can manage it.

I could live with "The Kevins Watch Anthologies" as an omnibus I suppose.

Perhaps we can place small versions of the original covers on the back cover of the Omnibus or a collage on the front. Maybe somewhere on the inside.

Just a thought.
