The Term "ROCK" is blurred further

It's my opinion of course but Madonna hasn't played a rock song in her life.
Now that she's made it to the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame the way is now paved for the legion of kazoo players out there that never dreamed they had a shot. :D

Madonna Highlights Rock Hall Inductees
Dec. 13, 2007, 10:56 AM EST

The Material Girl is now a Hall of Famer.

Madonna was announced as a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee on Thursday along with John Mellencamp, The Ventures, Leonard Cohen and The Dave Clark Five.

A panel of 600 industry figures selected the five acts to be inducted at the annual ceremony, to be held March 10 in New York. To be eligible, artists must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years before nomination.

Madonna Louise Ciccone signed with Sire Records in 1982 and became one of MTV's first stars two years later with "Like A Virgin." She has constantly altered her image ever since, showing staying power that few '80s stars could muster.

Indiana native Mellencamp became a voice of America's heartland with hits like "Pink Houses"; and Cohen's "Suzanne" and "Dress Rehearsal Rag" made him a folk rock icon in the late 1960s.

The Ventures defined instrumental guitar rock in the '60s with surfer anthems like "Walk Don't Run" and "Hawaii Five-O," and The Dave Clark Five were one of the most successful British invasion bands with "Glad All Over."

I think I mentioned this in the R&R Hall of Fame thread. It's ridiculous, and it proves (once again) that the R&RHoF is utterly inconsequential.

To paraphrase Mojo Nixon, the Rock & Roll Hall of Shame is in Cleveland OH. It should have been in Memphis.

And that's just the first thing wrong with the Rock & Roll Hall of Lame.

On the other side, I don't mind Madonna so much, so she makes as much sense as many other inductees. But I see your point. They do use the broader sense of "Rock & Roll" for inductees though. For that matter, I haven't heard many Leonard Cohen songs that I'd say fit Rock & Roll either, but he's also pretty good.

I guess you are thinking of the kind of "Rock & Roll" with a beat, guitars, and school children masturbating on the playground singing Little Richard like I am.

...or something.

I hear Judy Tenuta is one hell of an accordian player but I'm not sure that qualifies her as a Rock/Rock N' Roll artist.

Until Rush is inducted, I'll have nothing to do with that fucked up organization.

Werd.

The only things worthwhile to ever come out of Ohio were Joe Walsh and P.J. O'Rourke, and both of them had the good sense to reside elsewhere when they grew up.

Perhaps she's there in the capacity of 'Roll', clearly she has demonstrated her capability in that department!

You make a terrific point, finn. I can't for the life of my understand why I didn't think of that. You are of course quite correct. :-)
