I just heard the Spice Girls are getting back together.

Is anyone else as excited* as I am?

**English is a multivalued language. Pick whichever definition of the word 'excited' your mind wants to use in context with the above sentences.

In this case, for me, 'excited' would have to mean 'moved to tears of weary despair'.

Besides, the Spice Girls have never really left us. Or perhaps that's only true of the UK.

I was indifferent to the Spice Girls phenomenon, but I didn't mind their effervescent pop. There are way worse things in music than the Spice Girls, despite Lord Foul's bleak view of them, heh.

I suppose the band did speak for a generation of young women, so I say power to them. Also, I think that the Spice Girls have a kind of distinctive identity that many bands would envy, whether they'd admit or not. In a world of finicky pop fashion tastes, the Spice Girl brand is apparently still marketable.

Of course, I don't have to be surrounded by all that, as those in the UK are. Poor Cov. Of course, we in North America have had to put up with the hype over another UK import - David Beckham, who is married to Posh Spice, is that correct? It seems Beckham is the Messiah who will redeem soccer in America. Or something like that. But that's for the Sports forum.

*shudder* The Beckhams are easily the biggest celebrities we have here. Or were, before they (mercifully) left. They. Were. Everywhere.

Ah come on! Paris Hilton messing up her lipsynching, Ashley Simpson, Ashley Tisdale, Hanna Montana (or whoever Billy Ray Cyrus' kid is named), the High School Musical kids...on and on: there's tons worse than Spice Girls--and it seems to all come-Brittany, Jessica-from some evil Disney blackhole...

Admittedly, compared to some of the soul-searingly insipid alleged music we get these days, Spice Girls songs weren't that bad.

danlo, you just had to mention Ashlee Simpson. There are very few musical artists I actually hate, but she's one of them. I shouldn't even dignify her with the term "musical artist."

Britney's Teen Sister Jamie Lynn Spears Pregnant

Britney Spears's 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant, Nickelodeon confirmed Tuesday.

"We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being," says the network, which carries her series Zoey 101.

A rep for Spears was not immediately available for comment.

The network statement follows Internet reports that Spears's mother had confirmed the pregnancy to OK! magazine.

Spears, a high school junior who is 10 years younger than Britney, had until now escaped much of the attention about her personal life that has surrounded her sister.

Jamie Lynn stars as a schoolgirl at the fictitious Pacific Coast Academy in Zoey 101, finishing its third season next month as one of Nickelodeon's highest-rated shows.

She recently told the Associated Press that didn't have a serious boyfriend.

"I kind of just keep my options open," she said. "I have a bunch of friends that I always hang out with, a bunch of guy friends."

She added that her priority was to focus on her real-life schoolwork before considering any additional TV series or film roles.

"I'm going to try to graduate before I do anything else," she told AP.
