I like the prisoner of azkaban best, myself. I don't know why exactly and I haven't read it for a long time... that's just the one that sticks out in my mind. But I really didn't enjoy the chamber of secrets.

This vote is a tenative one at best since I have not finished OOP, in fact I have hardly gotten into it......yeah I know, after everything I went thru to get it..

But I loved the Prisoner of Azkaban.... The Dementors

Only read the first one, so I won't vote.

POA is where we meet Lupin and Sirius, we find out more about the night Lily and James died, we find out Harry has a Godfather. It is my favorite, because we see great growth in Ron. We learn about "the marauders" (that scene where the map insults Snape cracks me up everytime). It's a bunch of things that make it my favorite. The Knight Bus, Harry "blowing up" his aunt, Lupin being a werewolf, Buckbeak's rescue, Sirius' rescue, the timeturner, And...oh yes...lest we forget...Harry's patronus of Prongs, chasing away those awful Dementors. Yep...POA is my favorite

Close second is GOF....

Oh...and on the burning of witches and wizards...

Non-magic people (more commonly known as Muggles) were particularly afraid of magic in the medieval times, but not very good at recognizing it. On the rare occasion that they did catch a real witch or wizard, burning had no effect whatsoever. The witch or wizard would perform a basic Flame Freezing Charm and then pretend to shriek with pain while enjoying a gentle, tickling sensation. Indeed, Wendelin the Weird enjoyed being burned so much that she allowed herself to be caught no less than forty-seven times in various disguises.

Order of the Phoenix, unquestionably. It's by far the darkest and most dangerous of the five. I didn't even like Goblet much - I thought that the characters ignored the stakes way too long. Unrealistically so.

POA and OOTP are tied for first in my mind, but since I could only vote for one of them, I went with POA.

For me Goblet has been the best so far but I think 6 and seven will be the best of them all.

As do I my friend! I think Six will be the best though...

i liked goblet of fire alot, but order of the phoenix is the best..its the most serious and harrys older

I like the structure of Goblet of Fire, how it's centered around the Tri-Wizard Tournament. I enjoyed the professional quidditch match scenes.

I also liked Harry's confrontation with Voldemort. His heroism and never-say-die attitude shine out particularly vividly for me there.

I loved POA, but after recovering from OOTP, I'll have to say that it was in fact my favorite, with POA a close second. I loved meeting Remus and Sirius, but I liked seeing more into Snape's past, and I liked the darkness of the fifth book - and the desperation of the Order. And the end...

POA has always been my favorite.

definately the last one, Order of the Pheonix. Her writing and ideas become more and more intense. Although Harry in his teenage years is becoming as annoying as a real teenager (sorry to those of that age bracket)

I think Goblet of Fire is my favourite, with Order of the Phoenix second, and Prisoner of Azkaban a close third.

Curious though, as to the naming conventions. I see that the poll names The Sorcerers Stone as the first, over here, (and in the UK as far as I know) it's called The Philosophers Stone.

I know it happens all the time, especially with movies, but why?

I loved all of them, but in "Order of the Pheonix" I was devestated when Sirius died.

From what I understand, American publishers thought that "Philosopher's Stone" wouldn't be too appealing, so the American edition was changed to "Sorcerer's Stone."

I understand the reasoning, but it strikes me as inherently wrong. The author gets to choose the title, (or should).

Aah well, it's not as though complaining will achieve anything, so why worry? Still annoys me though.

I'm American and it annoys me too. As for the reasoning, a philosopher here is in no way similar to a sorcerer. Here a philosopher is a thinker... someone who studies philosophy. AKA People who think way too much. lol

Actually, it's a bit more than how appealing it sounds - the publishers thought that Americans wouldn't catch the historical reference, the 'philosopher's stone' being a mythical object that alchemists believed would change base metals into gold.

Well I voted for the "The Sorcerers Stone" because through that story we are introduced into the wizarding world and to Harry Potter. I seem to favor "first stories" in a series because it got me started wanting more in the first place.
I have pre-ordered the next book; Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince - gosh I can't believe I have to wait until July!
