The quote from the protester about Muslims does strike a bit eerie though. Catholicism is a religion you are universally allowed to make fun of. (As a Catholic, trust me I know.) But you don't see us blowing shit up over a Catholic Priest joke, regardless of how many of us feel about the controversy. (There are *just* as many protestant priest Pedophiles, but Catholic ones became a "summer of the Shark" fad.)

Notice the lack of leftists joining the fight for "religious tolerance" as there would be in the case of someone poking fun at Islam (or scientology...)

(BTW, Dogma is one of my favorite movies ever)

Saw Zak and Miri last night. I've been trying real hard not to expect too much, but I really enjoyed this movie. A perfect balance between Chasing Amy and Clerks. Not quite as genuine as the first, not quite as irreverent as the last, but a very enjoyable and hilarious movie. It was definitely not Jersey Girl.

It definitely had its moments. I was hoping it'd be more like Clerks II and less like Chasing Amy, but whatreyagonnado?

I saw it this last weekend. I wasn't expecting much, and my review is mixed. I laughed a lot during this movie, probably more than the handful of other people in the theater. Unfortunately, there really wasn't too much more to this one, which I really thought there was with Clerks 2 and Chasing Amy as well as even Dogma.
I was very surprised by the rampant nudity, strangely enough. He always seemed to feel bad about the boobies in Mallrats, and what I heard was that he showed but didn't show the porno, so I figured there would be some carefully placed objects, but I guess I was wrong. Not that there is anything wrong with nudity, I just didn't expect it. I didn't exactly expect to see Jay's schlong though, strangely enough, despite how much it is talked about.
All in all, it was good, and I enjoyed myself immensely. But, there wasn't enough there to catapult it to the top of the list. It pretty much is on par with Mallrats for me. Funny, with a lot of great bits, but no real depth.
Especially loved the guy that plays the Mac in the Mac & PC commercials. He was the best part of this movie for me.

I watched most of Zak and Miri. We shut it off after the pull out scene where the camera guy got covered in shit. We weren't really enjoying it anywya, but when that happened we decided we'd given Kevin Smith enough of our time and refused to let him crap all over our eyeballs any longer.

He used to be talented. No more. I haven't really enjoyed one of his movies since Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Kevin Smith 'Too Fat' to Fly Southwest

Kevin Smith's most famous role is a guy who rarely speaks. But he's got a lot to say – much of it profane – after being kicked off a Southwest Air flight because he didn't fit comfortably into the seat.

"You [messed] with the wrong sedentary processed-foods eater!" Smith, whose next film, Cop Out, comes out Feb. 26, posted on Twitter.

All that aside, the new movie looks pretty good. Just be sure to check out the red band trailer as opposed to the 'for people who would never see a Kevin Smith movie' green one.

Sitting next to someone so fat that they take up part of my seat, with their flesh pressed against mine for hours, really really sucks. I know this was probably embarrassing for Smith, but he needs to think about the people who are forced to endure his fat during the flight.

Why doesn't a rich guy like this fly first class?

Dude is funny and his films are funny.

It's Southwest Air. They don't have 1st class. They're just no-frills commuter flights. Having flown them several times, I can honestly say they're basically flying Greyhounds.

And yeah, I've flown next to some larger people. It can make for an uncomfortable flight, but y'know, so can flying next to someone who snores, smacks their gum, continually shakes their feet, or any number of annoyances of the human condition. And since he was apparently already seated with the armrests down...

What a tool (and nice way to promote his upcoming film).

I think 'Chasing Amy' is the best of what he's made... it would be a near perfect romantic comedy if Mr. Afleck had shaved off that poor imitation of a fumanchu, but otherwise a pretty original romantic comedy. Not to mention it didn't try to be controversial, it just told a story with a different cast of characters. None of Smith's other flicks have really been that great outside of that imo, I laughed a lot at Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, but other than those two movies... I don't think he lives up to the accolades.

Saw Cop Out the other day. It wasn't bad. The first half was funny as hell, but the second half dragged a bit.

According to Wired magazine, this is the first movie he's directed that he didn't also write. Apparently his movie career is in freefall. I wish him the best. I wish he'd write something funny again.

I think his biggest problem is losing Scott Mosier as editor. His pacing has been off since J&SBSB. I noticed the 'Edited by Kevin Smith' at the opening credits and thought 'uh oh' to myself. If he can't get Mosier on board, he needs to get someone from the studio to do it. I just don't think Smith has the ability to step back from the film and decide what needs to go and what needs to stay.

That, and he needs to stick to his strong point - dialogue.

Watched Red State today, and I was pleasantly surprised. Naturally, the dialog was good, but I was pleased with how well Smith developed and sustained high amounts of tension and how he managed to avoid the easy, predictable choices the characters could have made.

I see that some reviewers called the treatment of the political subject matter ham-handed, and I expected as much considering the title (the only bad part of the movie, if you ask me), and while I would agree retrospectively, I didn't find myself thinking that during the movie. If the pace had allowed it, maybe. More of a "ah, I see whose noses you were trying to tweak there. Good job, Kevin" kind of way.
