Sunshine!! Accept no delays and Rent it!

Sunshine is perhaps the most intelligent Sci-fi flavored movie released in a few years. While it was reminiscent of Event Horizon in a way, the visuals in this flick are stunning, the characters better developed, and the technology believeable.
Also, Cillian Murphy (it has come to me) would make a PERFECT Mhoram!!

I tried to rent it this past weekend but Blockbuster had only 2 rows dedicated to the dvd and of course they were all rented. I'll try again soon. I do want to see it.

I haven't even heard of it, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. Cillian Murphy has been good in everything I've seen him in so far.

Really? I thought it sounded kind of cheesy. Perhaps I'll need to reconsider!

Watched Sunshine today. It was very well crafted, acted and executed. I'm glad I bought it. My only somewhat negative comment is that it borrows strongly from many established films including 2001, 2010, Event Horizon, Supernova, The Core, Deep Impact, Solaris, Silent Running, Mission to Mars, Red Planet, Alien and The Abyss. I've probably overlooked a few other influences but you get the idea.

I saw this movie last year and left the cinema deeply affected - I had tears in my eyes at the end. The movie is amazing, and the soundtrack is amazing. However, some of the science is pretty bad.
I'm a MAJOR Cillin Murphy fan, by the way.

I disagree with the Silent Running, Mission to Mars and Red Planet comparisons, as those films didn't invent most of the concepts that were shared with Sunshine, anyway. Given the number of sci-fi movies released, it's more likely to find a co-incidence anyway. However, there are definitely shades of Event Horizon in Sunshine.

Just finished it.
Wow. Stands at the top, visually, in the "out of contact, deep space mission gone afoul, touch the mind of god" genre.

Hmmm.
SciFi Channel has these warning tips that are pretty amusing. I haven't seen this one yet, but I fully expect it:
If you find a derelict ship with dead bodies in it . . .
That doesn't mean no one's alive.
As aTOMic said, the production values and acting are top-notch. There were great scenes and solid characters. I highly recommend 80% of the movie. So why did Boyle feel the need to distort Pinbacker's image, when there was zero reason on Icarus 2? I gathered the intent was to unnerve the audience, while trying to convey a mystic quality on Pinbacker, but it just annoyed the hell out of me.
The cynical answer? Either the makeup/costuming of the character detracted from the execution, or the acting and/or staging of what was originally filmed did not play out with sufficient suspense.
It ruined the movie for me.

I must admit that I questioned why there was that effect around Pinbacker, and all I could come up with was that it was a thematic element.

i liked the effect around Pinbacker. on the alt ending without it i didn't get the same feeling of dread.

I dunno, I thought the last third of the movie was really dissapointing. It looked like it was going to be a masterpiece till then. A good ending is all that really counts right?

Went to buy it yesterday and they had not one copy, very disappointing. I'll pay for shipping I suppose.

I'm with TD on this, I was pinned to the TV through most of the movie though. I have problems trying to figure out what's happening with silent visuals though, especially when there's no explanation given. I also thought the movie was a bit erratic at times. I loved all of the visuals of the Sun!

I totally agree. Though the film was really derivative (as Tom said), it was well done. I thought the doctor was fantastic, "Tell me what you see!". But the last third was a cheap slasher film.
