That sucks. Seemed like a decent enough guy. Will be odd watching him this summer as the Joker knowing that it was his last role.

WHAT??!!!!???? It can't be true. It just can't.

I guess he'll never get the chance to play Covenant. And that also means that if the Joker does survive this movie, that they can't have Heath play him again.
Wow...that's nuts. He was so damn talented. Really too bad.

That Olsen chick probably poisoned him.

My pity has limits. He made this mistake and now his family will have to pay the consequences.

This is totally unreal. I had no idea. I'm unsure how they'll use the Joker, if Nolan plans to use him in future Batman films.

It ends the plan to have the third movie about the Joker's court case. Seriously, that's what they had planned.

Why end the plan? This is the 2nd actor to play the Joker, actually 3rd if you include the 60's spoof. Hell, I lost count of the number of actors who have played Batman.

Wikipedia wrote:The challenge of the role put a strain on Ledger's sleep patterns, finding himself unable to rest for more than a few hours each night.
I wonder if that contributed? I also heard he lost a lot of weight as the film went on. He does look rather thin, in his current Wikipedia picture.

.......*shocked*......
Surely there must be some mistake!
Such a young life, so much left to do...
One of my top 3 favourite actors...
May he RIP...

My sentiments too. I can picture the apologists in the media swarming in now to defend celebrity drug use.

What drug use? There's a half-assed report that he had sleeping pills near him and that pills were "strewn" around the apartment. And how do you know this is true? How do you know what these pills even were? Do you in fact know the cause of death? Does anyone?
Maybe we should wait and find out how he died before assuming that it is somehow his fault. It might be. Or he could have been murdered. He might have had an allergic reaction to a prescription drug, or accidentally overdosed on something that is usually safe (this is hideously easy to do, btw). Or he could have had a brain aneurism.
You don't know. NO ONE KNOWS. Not yet. Certainly not anyone here.

Well, who knows what the autopsy will show but the word at the moment is that he did suffer insomnia, did take anti anxiety tabs.... He was found with prescription drugs. So he's not doing coke and od-ing.
If it wasn't accidental then he suicided... and if that's the case my pity does *not* have limits. Sure, he leaves behind other people who "suffer" but you've got to be mightily f*cked up to want to end it all but if you've been in that "space" before you'll know it's a dark place that you do not *choose* to be in.

Absolutely true. [EDIT - the comment was a response to the poster who said above that we can't condemn him based off a vague reference to sleeping pills]
In any case, whether he died from an overdose or not, whether he was Heath Ledger or not, it's a tragedy.
I quite liked him as an actor, though it took Brokeback Mountain for me to recognise he had genuine talent. What habits and vices he had in his personal life are completely irrelevant to me.

Latest reports were that it was accidental. One too many sleeping pills to deal with the insomnia, and in one report I even heard the word "pneumonia" being coupled with insomnia.
Whatever the case, its a very tragic and premature end to a life that hadnt yet reached its peak. I feel sorry now for the ones left behind having to deal with the judgements about how he lived his private life from strangers that didnt even know him and the morbid scrutinization of his demise.

I must admit - I had to scratch my head to figure out who Heath Ledger was

It seems like an accident. Between the sleeping pills and the lung congestion, it could very well be that he simply drowned in his own spetum.
I doubt he committed suicide as he semed to be a doting father. AQnyone who has kids knows that if you take the role seriously, you'd never kill yourself.
As a former actor (I started my collegiate career in the theatre), I admired Ledger's bravery and commitment to the art. He could have become a pretty-boy, screen candyman...but he really chose artistic, meaningful roles.
It's sad.
