Hey y'all. Don't know how many of you actually celebrate Lent, but yesterday was Ash Wednesday, and the big kick-off to the Lenten season.

So whad' y'all give up? Cailette and I decided to go Vegetarian.

It's Lent already? Damn, I missed Pancake Day.
Last year I gave up chocolate and found it surprisingly easy, until a week before the end and I thought I'd done well enough and I'd just break it once. It was downhill from there. Not sure if I'll do anything this year (though it might be a good idea to repeat the same).

Cail,

Check the Index of recipes for Vegetarian recipes, if you need any. I have more, if you need me to post.

Wait, wait.

Does this mean I'm behind on my timetable for collapsing while walking into town to pay my phone bill?

We are giving up red meat - which will be especially hard for me, since I am already doing a reduced-carb diet... too many restrictions and I might waste away... :)

In addition, we are both picking out books to read to stimulate our minds, and starting with AW mass yesterday, we have vowed to attend mass regularly again (we lapsed some last year).

Also, we are toying with the idea of paring down our cable channel options somewhat, then donating the monthly difference to charity. Haven't decided on that one - whether we can go without Robot Chicken? :)

Hit me up if you need any low carb ideas that don't involve red meat, I have many many ways you can make chicken exciting and low carb...but don't ask me about fish, i don't do fish.

storm,

Please, please, please come post in The Galley. Hyperception keeps going on again/off again low carb. Maybe one day I'll join in, if I can find enough inexpensive variety.

If there isn't already one there, feel free to start a Low Carb recipes thread.

(...sorry High L-rd. The forum self-promotion is sorta on topic this time...)

As a mod Menolly, you're expected to pimp your forum(s).

Yeah, I know Cail.
But Damelon thinks I am a bit excessive at times.
He's accused me of being a match for Av...

We are? Damn, I've been getting it wrong the whole time. ;)
(Okay, okay--when it's relevant. But I couldn't resist.)

On topic, I've decided to go with the chocolate thing. I've been needing to cut down on snacks anyway.

Instead of giving anything up I'm trying to have a more active lifestyle--more exercise, more social interaction, etc.

I also have an large selection of vegetarian recipes for use during this time of year. Menolly, are we going to have a vegetarian thread over in the galley? I suppose I could go look. . . ;)

Um...off hand I don't think there is one already. But, one could always be started, if there is a call for it.

Precisely why it's a good idea to have good vegetarian recipes when you give it up for a month.
