Newbie View for Casting a Movie

This has probably been beaten to death but I wanted to add my own casting:
Morn Hyland: Jessica Alba
Nick Succorso: Jim Rome (I know he isn't an actor but he fit my image)
Warden Dios: Kurt Russell
Cleatus Fane: Richard Attenborough (Think Jurassic Park)
Hashi Lebwohl: Jeff Goldblum
Angus and Davies are difficult you would probably have to find a father and son unknown actors who look alike to play this. Angus could be played by Harvey Kietel though (maybe to old)
Mikka: Jodie Foster
Dolph Ubickwe: Jack Black
Min Donner: Kate Mulgrew
Vector Shaheed: James Doohan (to bad he's dead)
Sixten Vertigus: Morgan Freeman
Kiona Hannish: Hailey Barry
Sorus Chatelaine: Michelle Pfeiffer
Holt Fasner: Sam Niell (with some aging makeup)
I just finished reading the series and these are some I had in mind.

Jack Black as Dolph! That totally blows my mind!

You really need Michael Clarke Duncan (if he's still alive), Lawrence Fishburne or the guy who played the principal on Boston Public. Freeman's a great choice (but I still can't shake Shantner o/o my head). By Hailey Barry I take it you mean Halley Berry? Please no-she's hot yeah, but has a way of crusing movies.

Yeah I missed the fact that Dolph was black when I read the book, Just discovered that fact. Jack Black was a stretch I just wanted to get him in the movie. Still the Davies/Angus issue is the hardest to overcome. The story needs them to look alike. Halley fits Kiona, pretty but professional looking. The moment Capt Vertigus was introduced his mannerism reminded me of Morgan Freeman. My one insistance though is Jeff Goldblum as Hashi. I still can't come up with anyone for Nick (Jim Rome is a stupid choice) but Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt are horrible choices as well. Johnny Depp would be a cheesy choice because of his part as a Pirate in the classical sense.

Goldblum is interesting..Rome is not a bad choice..with acting lessons. Holloway not bad at all. You can't have Davies looking like a combo of Alba and Ron Jeremy! Taint right I tells ye, these thangs are juz not done in these here parts.

I must protest. I don't think Jessica Alba has the range needed for Morn.

I don't think Jessica Alba has the range needed for life.

I was trying not to hurt the newbie's feelings by being to harsh on his choices...

But now that you've revealed this, he'll immediately interpret your actions to mean that you think he has low self esteem or something and he'll start doubting himself or something freudian like that. (I know almost nothing about freud but it seems to work well as a synonym for psychological)

It had nothing to do with an assumption about the newbie. It was more about not yet revealing my cruel evil side to someone so fresh and innocent to the watch...

Be easy on me, I pictured Morn as Jessica Alba. She does have the physicality for the role from her Dark Angel Days. I admit her acting ability would have to be amped up for the range of emotions Morn goes through. Maybe the Amnioni can come up with a mutagen for her. I see the problem with putting Alba and Foster in the same movie, Jody would steal the scenes from Morn and that wouldn't work.
I am still trying to purge the Image of a Jeremy/Alba offspring
how about
Ron Jeremy as Angus
Jack Black as Davies

Give Alba a Zone Implant and then she can use it to imitate the range of emotions.
EDIT-Why can't I buy myself a zone implant one of the KW stores?

Howabout Ellen Page as Morn? I read Ebert's review of Juno recently and he said she might be the greatest actress of her (my) generation.

That might be a fit after reading about her Juno character had a similar issue with abortion as Morn. She as recieved some very great reviews on her range. This may sound a little wierd but she almost looks to young for Morn, but maybe that is a good thing, It might help her pull off that fresh faced cadet part of Morn.

Ignoring that Morn is blonde, she is a UMCP and so she has to have a strong athletic build, and perhaps be on the tall side, and she has to be beautiful, but in a boring, characterless way, as SRD describes.

Hrmm.... How about bleaching Jessica Biel?

My response:
Hair dye
Think Linda Hamilton from T1 to T2 (Buff and athletic can be trained for)
I don't know how tall Ellen Page is 5'5" should be adequate
It's all in the make-up man.

Blonde? I always thought of her as brunette. Hmmm.
Checking the text of TRS, the only description I can find of her is "pale beauty". Leaves a lot open to the imagination. So how did I insert brunette? Audrey Hepburn is a classic, pale beauty. But that's just me.
Perhaps there's further description in 5 books, but I don't know where to start.
