Saw him on American Idol a while ago. Rock influence, and I was looking forward to his first album.
Managed to get a copy from my local library, and IT ROCKS
anyone else got an opinion on him?
I realise that American Idol is a bit of a lottery, but I'm disapointed that more rock acts don't make it through to the latter stages.
Is rock music not that well thought of in the USA by the majority of people who watch the show?
What's the demographic of American Idol? Is it mainly pop loving teens?

Thanks for the heads up. I hadn't come across him before and he is pretty good. Its certainly nice to see a rock act on one of those shows for a change! The UK shows tend to lean toward the pop and girl/boy bands.

Idol serves up and caters to pop - it considers other genres as nods, bows, and flavors, but always wants pop to be the focus.
I've had the Daughtry album for several months now, and listen to the complete album at least once a week (while running - it's on my iPod). I like it. Last summer, they toured with Bon Jovi - it's a good match, and I like the cover CD does of BJ's Wanted, Dead or Alive.
Not a fan of Idol - have never watched it - but I am a Daughtry fan.

I used to watch Idol pretty regularly, but haven't watched it at all this year - just had other things that were more important.
I like Daughtry too. I think he's one of the two people who came off of that show who may have some real staying power (with Kelly Clarkson - though I don't like her style of music as much.)
I'm not sure that the issue is that the Idol demographic doesn't like rock. I think it's more that they way the show is set up, with the contestants competing in different genres every week, that they usually end up with people who are good in all genres, but excellent in none. Whereas the folks who are excellent rock singers (Daughtry) sound pretty poor on the country week or the big band week.

I agree with dw though.
I have never watched American Idol, but my understanding is they are looking for performers in the vein of a Whitney Houston or a...hmm...who would be an equivalent male performer?
