To be honest, I've always been reticent declaring this a family forum, considering it's founded on our appreciation of books about a leperous rapist... ;)

We get some brief but interesting POVs from Amnion characters throughout the series. One such is from Marc Vestibule's point of view. He doesn't spend any time considering the loss of human life or Amnion life.

Even the loss of Milos Taverner was not to be lamented. Marc considered him a failed experiment. Why did the Amnion consider Milos was a failure?

That is a great question, both in concept and phrasing.

No flash answer; will give it some thought.

Wow, good question! I think the kind of mutation that the Amnion would consider successful would be one that produces an Amnioni that looks completely human. That way they can move more freely among people and mutate more of them.

There was something about Milos' eyes looking alien that gives away he's an Amnioni. So, I'm guessing that's why he's a failure to them.

A good guess, but not correct :D

The Amnion were pleased with Milos' transformation, and you are correct in that they would like him to be able to move freely among people and mutate more of them. But they still considered him a failed experiment. For a different reason!

So....

Physically he was a near-perfect transformation; better than Marc Vestebule. What reason would they still consider him a failed experiment?? Av was closest with his quick answer...

Physically, Milos was a much more successful mutation than Marc Vestibule; he could pass on sight fairly well as human. However, he did not retain enough of his former identity to interact convincingly as human. He thought, spoke, and acted too much like an Amnioni to pass in human company and be an effective agent of further Human-to Amnion mutation.

Yeah, I think SD has it...he looked human but he thought like an Amnion.
