When I first read FR I assumed ( Im sure Im not the only one) that Longwraths madness was focused on Linden, but then it occurred to me that this could be a case of mistaken identity. We dont know how complete a vision he was given by the Earthsight, but we do know that white gold is not very common in the Land, and that there are 2 women in the Land weilding white gold. Also I can find no evidence that the current denizens of the Land, or the Earth for that matter, were even aware that there was a second Ring, although they were aware that the Chosen was the last person known to have posession of the Ring. Perhaps Longwraths Earthsight only revealed to him that a women, was using the white gold to damage time, hence what will his reaction be when he learns of Joan, and is she his intended target?

Thats an interesting thought...could be! I know I'd like to get my hands around Joan's throat as well.

It seems a possibility. Longwrath did attempt to lead the giants into the Sarangrave before they forced him to go via Coercri and then to the Upper Land--he may have been heading for Joan, but switched to Linden when she became the closer of the two.

I think a similar theory has been expounded in the Longwrath's Anger topic.

I've thought of this as well, but I always assumed that his madness wasn't "Earthsight", but was rather inspired by LF. (The way his shackles fell off him reminded me too much of Joan).

Besides, I thought it was stated that the wraiths of Andelain refused him entry because he was a servant of Despite?

I don't think that they refused him entry, as much as they were trying to remove his madness....

I agree too, Longwrath is really similar to Joan.

Of course, the Elohim were trying to stop Linden, albeit, quite passively, as if their capacity. Longwrath keeps saying the same thing over and over again, "Slay Her! Are you mad?"

Anyone remember someone else who keep saying the same thing over and over again after contact with the Elohim??

Twelve foot tall man with sword vs. frail, beaten, half crazed, women with a white gold ring, and an army of skest. Joan doesnt seem completely vulnerable to me.

I have come to the conclusion that JOAN, not Linden, will wield white gold in the service of the Land. Something is going to happen that will draw the Raver out of Joan, and it will be Anele who will help Joan overcome her insanity (I think it will go both ways here). Once the Raver is gone and her sanity restored, she will be able to wield her white gold against those who have imprisoned her mind for so many years...

Joan and her ring are the only instances of white gold in the hands of it's TRUE and rightful owner. That has to mean something.

Joan is a lap dog of the Despiser, he own's her completely, I dont see her doing anything helpful, but it would be great if she would bite the ring and Lindens finger off and then throw herself into a volcano. Its been done but its a crowd pleaser.

Would that make Linden into another halfhand?

I think at some point Linden will have to correct a mistake that she made before ever returning to the Land. She will have to strip Joan of her ring.I dont believe that Joan is the rightful weilder of the ring that she carries. I believe that rings rightful master is Linden. Consider , Joan lost her right to the ring when she broke the wedding vows that the ring symbolized in our world, and Joans ring is the mate to Covenants, and who does Covenant consider to be his mate now? I got the impression at the end of WGW that Linden considered Covenants ring to be her wedding ring, and him to be her husband. Commence the Wild Magic Cat fight!

This is quite interesting. I wondered why Covenant's ring wasn't working properly for Linden. This could explain it. Now that they're both alive and together would they need a marriage ceremony to seal the deal? The giants would love to do that :) "Fools! Don't marry them. Are you fools? Well, are you?"

Hm, that would be Covenant's third marriage, not bad for a dead leper...

Third??? When was the second? Did he marry Linden in the second chronicles already? I don't remember that.
