I cant wait , 3/6/09 is the supposed release date , and Im excited. This was the comic that changed the way I thought about comics, the comic that forced me to grow up and see that there was more to hero's and villains for that matter than POW, BANG, ZOOM! It seems that Frank Miller had always intended to shake up the world of comics , and for most people it was probably the Dark Knight that got them started down the dark rd. to darker works, but for me it was the Watchmen. Now it seems we will get the chance to see it on the big screen, and I for one will among the first in line.

Same here. It was Watchmen that did it for me, not The Dark Knight Returns.

I'm just as excited (and apprehensive) about the movie as you are! Let's hope it'll be something special, because Watchmen deserves the best treatment.

I just read it... I was very underwhelmed. (And, yes, that's allowing for the fact that it's many years old and there's much out there that's derivative of it.) On a darkness scale of 0 to 10, it's about a 1½.

BTW, there's a long Watchmen movie thread in the Comics forum.

Ahh where would all of us ignorant folk who havent had a chance to completely Explore the entire sight be without you, Ive only been on the watch 2 weeks now , but Ive already managed to step on several sets of toes, including yours , you must understand that it is not intentional, I just havent had years to read every forum, know every topic, perhaps you are of the opinion that I should learn my place in the pecking order, so if you could do me the favor of following me around every forum, pointing out my mistakes, highlighting old topics that I havent read obviously I would sure appreciate that.

I'm glad to here that. I've never been into comic books (or graphic novels or whatever they're called), but The Watchmen is so hyped I thought I might give it a try someday. Now I can beg off.

As Ive explained elsewhere, its too late now you had to read it back in the day to understand it for what it was, different, dark, almost like nothing else you could get your hands on in the late eighties, maybe J. Obar would be the closest to what Miller was doing then.

I don't think it would matter much for me, as I've never been much of a fan of Alan Moore (even from his days writing Swamp Thing.) But, I loved Miller's The Dark Knight Returns.

So is this a thread for people to get excited about the movie, or is it a thread for people to express their disappointment about Watchmen the graphic novel?

For my part, I think I've shown some restraint in not going in and dumping on all the Marvel movie threads (my admittedly flippant post about the upcoming Hulk movie notwithstanding).

Good point.

But any dumping was invited, Matrixman. And I think kept to a minimum.

I think exploring how the Watchmen is really only very effective to teens/young adults in the eighties, and doesn't translate to today, is relevant to a movie adaptation.

I disagree, I was born in 86, I read it as a sophomore in high school, and adored it. Moore is an absolute master of his craft. There is SO much story crammed into every corner, nuance, and object in it, I get an entirely new appreciation for it every time I read it. (Its been 4 or 5 times now, I'm STILL seeing new things, new shades, new nuances to the story) It is simply a masterful example of what the medium can do, IN ADDITION to completely upturning the concept of the superhero, and examining the cliche's of the genre. I actually *did* have some perspective on it, my mom had at least 12 volumes of the original Amazing Spider-Man anthologized, in addition to lots of classic Daredevil, X-Men, and Fan-Four.

Not to mention I grew up with the 60's Batman, the Cartoon Batman, the Batman movies, the (wonderful) X-men Cartoon, and a general GLUT of Super hero related media.
