hile troy not leaving

erm... I expect i just forgot the reason, but why is it that Troy does not return to the "real" world when Atiaran dies summoning him?
ps. Pardon my ignorance...and spelling.

Good question.

It could be that he died in the real world, but was kept from doing so in the Land (the Creator did offer to keep Covenant in the Land after TPTP - so it sounds as if that may be possible). But note that his Land method of death - going up in a conflagration when stabbed with the krill - is consistent with how he would have died in real life.

Or maybe he survived the fire, but was in a coma for ten years - then passed away in real life after he really did die in the Land.

Yes, but I think (know(because im itemized billing!)) That the Question was refering to the summoners death, not Troys.

(And no blaming it on the broken law of death cos that wasnt broken when troy was summoned)

I wonder if Atiaran's death created some kind of paradox, perhaps resulting in Troy being sucked out of the 'real' world completely, or at the very, least preventing him from returning there.

my memory is a bit flakey re: this but I seem to recall something went wrong with the summoning .. but i forget what :?

and Troy and Atiaran did exchange places because of that thing that went wrong ..

.. as Atiaran attempted to summon TC .. but it went awry .. and she got Troy instead .. but the summons backfired and instead of just bringing one person to her world .. they totally exchanged places .. and Atiaran died in Troy's place .. he somehow being transported to the Land .. he aquired her place/existence there :?

its definately an odd one :? .. but it does kind of make sense ;)

I like that idea, Sky. I don't think I've heard it put like that before. They traded lives... Hmmm...

That's always been my take on it too. I don't know if it was actually stated, but, since Sky and I both thought it, then mabey it was. How often do Sky and I agree, after all. :)

I think it was Mhoram who told Covenant that the fire that was meant for Troy in the "real world" consumed Atarian. I'll have to look it up, but I think it was Mhoram that suggested they switched places and that is why Troy didn't go back...

c/f Foul's eyes in the sacrifire, and Joan's ranting and bloodlust while tied to the bed. If foul can poke his nose in, at least a little, in our world, despite such movement being a threat to the AoT, then why can't Atiaran be dragged by the trauma of lore-use-backfire into the real world, or at least into the conflagration that was the dominant earthforce manifestation of the time in Hile Troy's direct environment.

So, yeah, Atiaran could have slipped into the real world to bear the brunt of the fire. You can be on the cusp, eg Covenant halfway translated but that translation not being completed so that he could slip back and save the kid from the snakebite.

The movement from one world to the other doesn't seem to be a split moment, moreso it seems to consume time. What makes ME wonder is when this happens, what happens to the passages of the two times? Time passes quicker in the Land than our world, two different speeds. The space between the two worlds can be breached, but it isn't split moment. SO if there's a translation period, or process, the are there points along the route at which by a sliding scale the two timespeeds alter gradually? Is there a mid-point ... mid-translation, where time runs at equal pace in each world?

Maybe it's like walking on one of those moving sidewalks. Just gotta be careful when you step off at the end. :D

:haha: LOL .. 8O !!

haha ..

thats an interesting point you have raised Landwaster about TC being kinda between summonings in the IEW that enabled him to go back and save the little girl 8)

ultimately i think F&F and I are absolutely on the money!! and it isnt that often we do agree on any given thing  LOL  LOL .. but I believe we are correct in taking the same interpretation that Mhoram implied to TC of Atiaran and Troys' exchange ;)

so thats it then!! ;) we're right and those that dont agree with us are well .. umm .. wrong 8) ;) LOL ..

jk .. really i am
