I may be the only one, but I really like this character. She is one of my favourite in the book. And I think people shouldn't be so harsh on the her.

All of what you have said is true, But think about it; she is the best bad guy in the books so far. Mainly because she had so much power over them and that she was legally going by the rules. She's a much better bad guy than Voldemort. He's just the typical loser bad guy. I think that Umbridge was a very interesting character. Don't get me wrong, I hate her personality as much as the rest of you; but you cannot deny she's a good and interesting character for the book.

Reading Umbridge's description and so forth (only half way through the book) I can only picture her as thus. For anyone who has seen Monsters INC. remember Roz??? "I'll be watching you Waschowski...always watching!" ...

the mental image in my head geez...

Oh absolutely. If the definition of a good villain is someone who makes you want to crawl through the pages and strangle them to death with their own underwear, then JKR succeded admirably with this one.

can I fourth it?? hee hee...
Umbitch definitely qualifies as a villian of the highest order. More interesting than Voldemort?? well for one thing I am kinda put off that HP has to face Voldemort at the end of each book and while yes he is the main antagonist it'd be nice to see Harry face off with some of other of Voldemort's followers, one who is just as if not equal to him. But that's just me and the series is primarily directed at kids.

Am wondering if JKR plans to stop with Harry's "graduation" (??) or will continue, will she allow other authors (not that she can really stop them except via copyrights) from continuing adventures of HP??

Apparently she wrote the last chapter of the last book (Harry's last year at school) first, and she keeps it securely locked in a safe. So I can't see it moving any further beyond that. As for whether she will permit spin-offs, who can say?

Excellent point - I couldn't stand her, but she was a fun character to read.

Me too. I want to see her in St. Mungo's, being visited by kids who just happen to keep making clopping hoof noises by accident.
