Exactly what the title says.

I'd be interested in knowing how you guys pronounce "rhadhamaerl"?

rad - ham - AIR - ol.

Funny... I always thought of it as rad-ha-MARE-el.

I'm reading a book called Dead Babies by Martin Amis and found the word: deliquesce (I believe it's a word SRD uses)

Without looking it up phonetically, I'd pronounce it either as:

DELI-KWEE-ES
or
DELI-KWES

rad - ham - AIR - el....but I'm sure I'm not right

I make very little effort to find out how a word is supposed to be pronounced.
I'm very comfortable making something up as I go.
Plus I started Tolkien and Donaldson before I was a teenager so I'm forgiven.
It never really matters until I'm in a conversation with someone about it and have to figure out what they are talking about.
I suppose I sound dumb on their end but I don't worry much about getting the pronunciation right on made up things.

rhadhamaerl to me goes like: radamerl

I can't even come close to typing correctly how I butchered "Silmarillion" when I was 11.
(I just remember I added a few more syllables!

I understand where you're coming from. I usually just make it up as I'm reading - and it's usually based very loosely on the actual spelling.

I corrected myself many years ago and forget now how I read it as a kid.
It made no sense if I remember correctly.

Now it's Sill-mar-rill-li-on I think

The movie drove me crazy though.
Gan-dolf ??
Not to me.
I always read it as Gan-dolf with a slight emphasis on the "dolf" more than the Gan.

Tolkien also said that Celeborn and other "c" words were pronounced Keleborn.
Which, in my head, just isn't going to happen!

Let's settle on Gandalf
The name comes from Old Norse and the first syllable gets the accent.
Silmarillion is indeed pronounced Sil-ma-RIL-li-on. And, Celeborn is indeed Keleborn.

I say rad-ham-a-rel but I'm sure that I'm a doofus and I'm wrong since I always say In-se-quent ...but it's actually In-see-quent... and (urgh)...there's a gazillion examples but I know what I'm talking about (and that's all that matters ).

I make up pronunciations too. And now since FBH I can't help but read things with Julie and Heatherly deliberate mispronunciations. I now always read inchoate as in-cho-hot-tay.

I pronounce it Rod-Ha-Mare-el and Lill-E-an-Rill and Lore-Lie-uh-rill, Ello-Heem, Ran-Yen(now Ran-eh-heen), Mellon-Cure-e-un-sky-ware, Cure-ash-Plen-teh-thor & Quellen-Ear, ah-ma-neh-bah-vem,... I'll come back with more when i remember them

Mostly the same as you. I used to call them Ran-yun too.

I always said eh-LO-him instead of -heem... but then I wasn't familiar w/ the term from the Bible.

What about Puissance?

I pronounce it Pew-sance....but I think I'm the only one.

And how many others called Atiaran Ah-tare-e-on...until they heard SRD say the name, and realized that you were reading it wrong ALL these years?

C'mon...I can't be the ONLY one.

Haruchai = Ha-roo-kai

At least, that's how I pronounce them.

Me too, but I have a lot that I pronounce wrong. I know what I mean when I'm reading or talking about it

heheh..actually i pronounced it (Elo-him) too untill i heard Scott Brick Reading Runes

Atiaran was always A-tee-air-an for me, not sure if its right though.

then i have: Har-ooh-Chy, More-um both with a little roll on the r
A-nun-div-ian-Yana, Su-Ru-pah-mare-L


hehe..and i always pronounced the Ramen..as Raymen. when i thought about Ramen as Rom-en the way it is pronounced i always thought to myself.....hehe..who is the Top Ramen har har...

oh...and the last for now is.... Dory-endor-Kor-eh-Shev same with the same little roll on the R as Mhoram. not a spanish roll but the kind you might get from Gandolf

argh! you know, I've only ever glanced at the word and have from day dot always pronounced it puss-i-ance.... which doesn't make sense as how I got that from the actual word I'll never know.
