Seattle knowledge and travel

Could have sworn I posted this earlier today but I must have been mistaken. Too many distractions at work to really remember.

I was hoping someone here may be able to give me some info on Seattle. Have you ever lived or travelled there? Could you suggest places to see and things to do? Any good sites to give me good info would be much appreciated.

To make this slightly more interactive - maybe share any travel plans you have for the upcoming months?

I know very little about Seattle, other than the music scenen in the nineties.

And of course, that classic episode of Scoody Doo with the fire monster that ate buildings that were still under construction.

My only bit of advise, is that you try to book a flight that has a stop-over in Halifax Int'l.

I know nothing about Seattle.
But...if you'll be there the weekend of June 21st and 22nd, and have some free time on your hands, Southwest Airlines has $79 flights each way to Denver from Seattle, and you could join us for Seafest...

Or the weekend before in San Francisco. :)

For detailed information on Seattle, you'll have to wait for Waddley or Balon to notice the thread. In the meantime, I would suggest you bring a raincoat. If you're going out that way I heard that Olympic National Park is a great place to visit, if you like the outdoors.

I wish! It would be pretty cool to fly over for Seafest!
Unfortunatly the plan is for September, or August if we go to Seattle and Vancouver. Although I *could* suggest to the b/f Denver could be more fun! :D

Always wanted to go to San Fran - good friend of mine just moved there actually...

Well Canada is the destination in mind...just slightly further west this time...

Hrrmmm...rain you say? I've had enough of that here in London to last a lifetime already this year!
Thanks for the link - looks good!

I can tell you that there's only one other Canadian city is farther away from Halifax, than Vancouver.

I'm just saying, that's all.

Cool! That would be great Balon!
Its only a thought in progress at the moment though but trying to see if its a possibility and the sorts of things around that region to do and see. Will keep you updated!

Theres a GREAT music scene, right along your style too.
Also: the EMP (Experience Music Project) and the Sci-fi museum,
Pikes Place Market
The Seattle Public Library

off the top of my head. I actually live to the south of Seattle, but Wadd's is closer, so she'll be able to rattle off a much larger list than I can. :D

The girls and I vacationed in Oregon and Washington several years ago. You'll love it, Chrysalis! (As long as it's not raining....)

Pike Place Market is way cool. We also did the monorail and the Space Needle -- those two things had been on my list of Stuff I Want to See Before I Die for *decades* (long story why...). There's also a Seattle Underground tour that was actually pretty interesting.

Let's see, what else? If you want to do outdoorsy stuff: we hiked Snoqualmie Falls with the girls' aunt, uncle and cousins -- that was fun. Mt. Ranier is pretty close, and Mt. St. Helens is only a few hours away. We didn't get to Olympic National Park, but I hear it's an amazing place.

Anything you want to know other than this is God's country? Just tourist stuff or what have you?

Am I the only one who remembers the Scooby Doo episode?

Music is always a plus!
The b/f will love the Sci - fi museum and I would have to go take a peek at the library!

I'd like to hear that long story if you had time :)
The Undergound tour does sound good - that would definitely be on the 'to do' list.
We would probably do some outdoors stuff. The plan would be fly to Seattle, then drive to Vancouver - then back to Seattle to fly home. I'm sure there are many thngs to do on the way.

The general tourist stuff can be good but also any good things that are not that well known too. :)

Seriously? Okay... Well, it's not *that* long a story, I guess. And I might have already told it here -- if so, y'all who remember it, just move along...

When I was a kid, my parents and I used to take a long-distance driving vacation every summer (which is how I racked up visits to most of the states in the US of A). I was all excited when Dad decided we'd do the top of the country, including the state of Washington. I wanted to see the monorail and the Space Needle in Seattle, which were both pretty new at that time. Plus I had a moderate crush on Bobby Sherman from "Here Come the Brides", a TV show which was supposedly about Seattle's early days.

Anyway, Dad was not a city kind of guy. We approached Seattle -- there's the Space Needle in the distance! -- and kept on driving. Detoured around the whole city. (Come to think of it, we might have actually driven through Olympic National Park on that trip. I was too disappointed about missing Seattle to notice the scenery...)

Anyway. After he did the same thing to me in LA, I started a list of places I was going to go back to and actually *visit*, dammit. I think I've pretty much seen them all now....
