I have no idea what's inspired my sudden sharing of bile for the man - I don't even watch more than a couple hours of TV a week. Nevertheless, Oliver must die.

I've actually eaten in "15" in Melbourne, the restaurant he set up to help homeless kids. Good idea, good food.
Still can't forget Victor Lewis' description of him as a "fish-lipped mockney c***" !

I so agree about the Naked Chef, but find it quite amusing that a rant is what it took for you to post here in the Galley. Give me Alton Brown anyday, or if we don't mind mentioning the classic t.v. cooking shows, Graham Kerr, Julia Child, or Jeff Smith. Jaques Pepin and Wolfgang Puck are both excellent chefs, but there shows do nothing for me.

I used to enjoy watching him, but I am at the point where I would put Emeril Lagasse with Jaime Oliver, although I have eaten at Emeril's Tchoup Chop in Orlando, and it was an experience I would love to have again one day.

I take it that fellow doesn't like Jaime Oliver.

I've watched Jaime's show. He's neither here nor there for me. I'd imagine if his face was plastered everywhere it'd be different, but thankfully that's not the case here.

There have been rants, if not quite as colorful, like that here about Rachael Ray; and admiration for Giada De Laurentiis. Rachael, if often over the top, gives practical tips. Giada, to me, seems only there for eye candy. I get the impression watching her that the staff has to set the burner for her to boil water.

I think my favorite British cooking show was the one where the two ladies wheeled around the countryside on motorbike, making meals for various people.

We speaka the same language, Damelon. I dig Rachael Ray, though she is sometimes annoyingly peppy - and she has admitted she hasn't tried all of her own 30 minute recipes.
Giada is only pretty until somone points out how she isn't really smiling so much as brandishing her teeth at you -- assuming that you notice she has a face . That, and I can't stand it when she stops in mid-English-sentence to unleash an Italian word as if it were invoking a Spell of 'I'm-Better-Than-You'. But maybe that's just me.
Two Fat Ladies rocked! Bacon and butter, bacon and butter. They genuinely enjoyed their cooking, and you could tell.

And in fairness, I would also jump at the opportunity if someone gave me the chance to become a multi-millionaire for little more than being irritating on a cosmic scale on TV.

That is just ONE sentence that makes it worthwile reading the whole arsing blog-entry!

Alton Brown (my hero!)
Mario Batali (I learn things when I watch him cook)
Tyler Florence (so hot, and he cooks too!!!)
Paula Deen (she's entertaining)
Rachel Ray (she's sincere, and does give practical tips)
Duff Goldman (I'm still working on a scheme to get hired in his bakery)

Chefs I am neutral on:
Guy Fieri
Bobby Flay
Michael Chiarello
Dave Lieberman
Giada DeLaurentis
Ina Garten (sometimes she's good, sometimes ridiculous)
Cat Cora (though I root for her to win on Iron Chef)


Chefs I can't stand:
Sandra Lee (her obsession with cocktails and the Martha Stewart-type fussiness makes me want to slap her silly)
Emeril (I get bored very quickly with his shows)
Anthony Bourdain (seems to be a prick)
Nigella Lawson (can't exactly figure out why I don't like her)
And of course. . . Jamie Oliver

Before I watch a cooking show, I always ask how much cleavage she has. Since this Jamie Oliver is a guy, I don't like him. I'd rather watch pigs drive than men cook.

The godlike Anthony Bourdain? Somebody doesn't like Anthony Bourdain? Well the universe is about to come to an end!

I can't judge his cooking, as his demeanor prevents me from watching more than five minutes of his shows...

I've only seen Jamie Oliver's show where he makes food for families that are feeding their kids very unhealthy things. It was entertaining.

Though I hate, hate, HATE Curtis Stone from Take Home Chef. God, I can't stand that man.

Jaz, I don't think he's a bad chef, but I think you'll understand when I say I think they chose him because of his surfer-dude good looks and Aussie accent.

Don't watch his shows...read Kitchen Confidential and Cooks Tour. Both excellent books. Especially the first. Learned some great tips from him, and love his writing.

And IIRC, one of the reviews for KC said something like "Shows up Jamie Oliver for the choir-boy wannabe that he is."
