Okay. I'm all for it just so long as there aren't any f@#$ing sequels!!!!!!
The Highlander story is cool. I think we can all agree on that. Something we can't agree on is that there was no reason to create any of the sequels or the television show for the simple fact that the story is over at the end of the original first film. Prequels I'll be cool with. Go back 5 years or 500 I don't care.
Having said that I think there may be something to be said for a big budget treatment of the original material. It could actually be giant, epic if Connor gets involved in some really major events in history that were only hinted at in the original film. The finale could also use some re imagining IMHO.
BTW the original film made only $5,900,000 in 1986. I'm guessing the budget was even less.

Great, another remake. I could actually see Gerard Butler playing Connor, but Clancy Brown owns the role of The Kurgan.

Yeah I can see that too. My first thought was Thomas Jane since he bears a resemblance to Lambert but on the other hand it might make some sense to make the experience as unique as possible and still hold with as much of the original plot as possible.
Amen about Clancy Brown. I cannot fathom anyone else playing that role. Besides Clancy seemed larger than life in the film. Huge in fact. Like 10 feet tall and 300 lbs. Of course he's probably like 6'5" but damn in the film he seems monstrous, lethal and gloriously sadistic.

I'm intrigued. I remember really liking the original movie, though it's been a while since I've seen it, so I'm not sure how well it's aged.
The TV show certainly had some good moments, aside from the fact that it made no sense at all, continuity-wise with the first film.
I saw 2 of the movies sequels, and, in addition to making no sense from a continuity standpoint, they were just bad films.....
It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.

I assume Thomas Jane is the guy who played Punisher? Anyway, I don't see the need for that particular movie to be remade; the special effects were fine, the acting was fine, the movie was fine. They ought to focus their enegies on making the Buckaroo Banzai sequal they promised 24 years ago!

There really should be only one.
Besides, I suspect Queen will not score the remake. And that is just incorrect. It's certainly something wrong with the sequels.

Yeah. That's the guy.

I have no issue with the original film either. If they never remade it it would be fine with me. However since they didn't ask me and are going ahead anyway I guess they ought to up the stakes and spend a few bucks on it. If they sign some appropriate and recognizable actors and attract a good/great director I figure I wouldn't mind seeing the film as a bona fide spectacle.
And yes. No Queen soundtrack would be pretty disappointing. I expect the film will likely have a more traditional score.

However, if they wanted to go with what might be seen as a comparable contemporary choice for the scoring of the soundtrack, perhaps G-dsmack would do a decent job?

That's my take on hearing this news.

What? How dare you compare Godsmack to Queen! Jay, I need a week ban on aisle seven!!

No, no, leonine one.
You misunderstand me.
I am not comparing them musically, but more...
Status? Place in current musical lexicon compared to Queen at the time of their Highlander gig?
Something like that...

Bloody hell. Are they so utterly bereft of ideas that they have to remake everything?? Why can't they just leave a good movie be?
I agree with Cail, Clancy Brown was The Kurgan. One of cinema's best villains.
This will end up being just another over-blown Hollywood action flick. I can almost see the Matrix style action scenes right now. I'm already convinced I'll never watch this remake.
