I gave up searching for this one, so am asking for assistance.

It hit a limited number of screens in the US a year or two ago. Was about an immortal who gave a dinner for close friends and came out, so to speak, about his immortality and intended to say goodbye in order to move on to his next "life" with new friends, job, etc. Chaos then ensued endangering the immortals life. That's all I recall since watching the preview a while ago.

Can't recall any actors, so IMDB no help. Anyone know which movie this would be?

I keyed Immortal into imdb's keyword search and found 'The Old Son' which was a sci-fi short that came out in 2007:
www.imdb.com/title/tt1024859/

Don't know if this is what you were looking for or not.

That one sounds intersting, too, Duk, but that wasn't it. I tried googleing "dinner, friends, immortal", etc and this movie just doesn't come up. Maybe I dreamt it. Perhaps I'll write a screenplay quick and take advantage of no one ever hearing about it. ;)

Yup, that's it Es. Thanks a ton! Esmer does provide successful answers even outside of "Ask Esmer".

Dude, you should have just pm'd Es. Seriously, I think he must hack in to MI5's search engine cos the bloke can find ANYTHING! 8)

Either that or he is a real life secret agent. 8O

Hmmm...I'll get to the bottom of it....one day.

Finally got this movie. It is a "talker", but very interesting with a couple of "wows" and some drama mixed in. Makes you ponder about history, the human time-line and how who writes the history books really has a major impact, let alone how it "really" happened, per se. A little mystery, too in that all the while you wonder if this guy is telling the truth or just a telling tall-tale. I highly recommend this interesting think-flick.

thanks for reminding me KT!! after getting your pm i went to netflix where i discovered (for the second time - what can i say, i've been sick!! )
that i could watch it right online, so i did!!!

i liked it very much. great premise. i think there could have been more difficult questions for the guy tho and i did have a problem with the person from history he claimed to have been, tho i thought it was understatedly accomplished by both actor and director, still...it was a bit much.
i liked the twist at the end. honestly...i didn't see it coming and thought "shit! i shoulda seen that coming!!!" so i guess the whole
thing was pretty engaging for me.

as to why he decided to tell these particular people...that was not explained well enough for me. he didn't seem to have any deep
connections with any of them so that he felt comfortable enough to tell
them didn't make much sense to me. it wasn't believable.

for the most part tho, i liked it and would watch it again, and maybe even
own it cause i liked its quirky premise and low budget, no nonsense production. kinda like Primer.

Watched this one twice this weekend. This is one of those movies you want to watch with a few close friends and talk about after.

The idea that a caveman living through the years would only learn who he was when archeologists gave his people a name is one of those thoughts that make perfect sense, but wouldn't occur to you until then.

And the writer completely shoots down the "all-knowing immortal" cliche.

A slew of engrossing subjects in here, and sometimes they don't go in the direction you want them to. My wife and I laughed out loud--both times we watched--at the biologist's line
Spoiler
about the ancestry/ethnicity of Jesus, "and now, a caveman!"
I felt the religious discussion was necessary, since it is, and will always be, such a hot-button topic. Any discussion about the historical past that doesn't include religion would be avoiding it purposely.

I think the reason he chose to share with these friends were the same ones he used
Spoiler
when he told them he was joking. The Van Gogh, him not aging, and the stone bird.
Loved the final reveal also:
Spoiler
"You'd never seen someone you knew as a child grow old and die?"

Watched it last night. Enjoyed it, but some of the archaeology is a bit shaky.
